This reminds me of a guy I knew when I lived in Florida. What I remember of his story is he joined the navy but wanted a "safe" job so he tried to get in the medical field. He wound up being a medic with the seals ( their choice not his ). He went through seal training with them , army and marines. Wound up with a high risk job and rarely ( atleast in his case ) ever seen a ship

 no offense , but the last thing you want to do in boot camp is get noticed....for any reason , trust me. You will want to do that if possible after boot camp , but in boot camp you not only dont want to mess up but if its possible you are usually better off if you can blend in and let others get the "attention" They will key in on anything that sets you apart and makes you "different" and use it against you. The object is that you shine better as a team than as individuals. Do everything the very best you can and help others when possible , but dont "volunteer" for much if it were possible to be completely invisible during boot camp that would be the thing to shoot for. I watched them pick the "whipping boys" and some of them were model recruits. They want complete cooperation but they want everyone to be equal. If you stand out you either get more "attention" or they pile responsibility on you knowing at some point you will fail.

Boot camp can be tough but afterwards you will look back at it with good memories and probably remember it as almost fun in a way. Once you get to your assigned duty station afterwards you may actually wish you could go back to boot camp. The irony gets pretty thick.

well, that is probably true. i just hope i get placed on a ship. because thats one of the reasons i wanted to be in the navy. if not oh well as long as im not getting shot at im okay with it LOL

Their are some unbelievable regulations regarding haircuts abd !!!! in the military. I don't have any problems with it other than I'll look like **** with a military haircut and I get bad skin rashes from hair after haircuts so that might get in the way. Other than that I have no problems with anything.

Guys used to wear facial hair. They made the guys I know shave their face so they wouldn't die if they have to put on a gas mask. A couple missed their beards. And I have to say they were uglier than I thought:laughing:

I actually changed mind last minute and decided to join marines I didn't like some of the things I was reading about the navy. Yeah it's a strange jump. But I decided if I'm going to be in the military I want less of a chance that I will get a desk job. I gave thought to joining the airforce but didn't think it would be a branch I would like.

Well , anytime I'm around a bunch of Navy guys , ( we're all just kiddin' around ) when they find out I was in the Corps , they always tell me the Marine Corps is just a department of the Navy , I tell them , Yea , the men's department . They don't mess with me anymore about that . Well , the Corps is a big difference from the Navy . One thing about it is , if you join the Corps , and decide to try another branch later , you won't have to do their boot camp , Good luck . Let us know what the recruiter tells you .

:pullhair: You need to watch a few episodes of Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.

How in the heck did you change your mind at the last minute? You were suppose to be going to the recruitment office today. I wished you good luck and went to work and came home to this. I'm starting to think you're on here to keep me occupied.:?:

nah bud, i was going to go then i changed mind, i will go tommorrow i didnt get the chance today, maybe i can still go later today i just dont know the hours of the place.

I wish you the best in whatever you do. I was in the Army and must say I had to grow up fast that was 1970. It was the best of days and the worst of days. A great experience! But you can serve your country in many ways without joining anything. Be wise and think about it for awhile and talk to some of the guys that have served around a year that way you'll get and idea what a new recruit would be like.

Shouldn't you wait until you ARE a Marine before using that avatar to identify yourself as in the Marine Corps?

You might want to EARN that right first.... just an observation
