Help Me ID This Bullet

A friend of mine and myself found this bullet while hunting a Yank camp site in Rienzi Mississippi. It almost seems as though it is a sharps round however it has a strange pattern on the side. Can anyone help?

it would help to have measurements, done with a caliper.

This is my best guess with the old measuring tape that I have. It is about 3/8 of an inch tall (due to the top portion being flattened) and .72 of an inch across the bottom. Hope this helps! I don't have another measuring device unfortunately

My guess is that the maker of the bullet probably used a sewing thimble for a mold. These bullets were often made around the campfire at night and he may have lost his bullet mold or simply did not have one for his sharps.
