So I am heading to my local shop tomorrow for my new metal detector. Still undecided between the NOX 700 or the legend. This may be a stupid question but which is easier to learn on. All these youtube videos make it look so easy.

Your gonna get a lot of people saying Legend but I found the Equinox 600 easy to learn and an excellent machine so I'm going to say NOX 700 as it is an improved version of the 600.

I've got a Legend and it finds everything. Both machines have a rabid following and are both about the same price range. Someone more knowledgeable will help.

Totally agree the 600 learning curve wasn’t to bad a nice machine to learn on definitely go for the 700

I own a Nox 800, Nox 900 and the Legend. I am one of those rabid followers that markinmichigan mentioned but I am rabid about all three.

For me the Equinox 700/900 are setup from the factory with more aggressive factory default programs than the Legend. If you are new to metal detecting that might be a bit overwhelming. If you have detected before it shouldn't be a big deal.

The Legend has proven to truly be waterproof. The 700/900 hopefully are Minelab's redesign to fix some of the leaks encountered by many Equinox 600/800 owners. They have had three years to fix that issue so, we will see.

I like the Equinox user interface better than the Legend user interface.

The Legend has a full feature set that is comparable to the Equinox 800/900 so it has several features that the Equinox 600/700 lack for a lower price than the 700.

Detecting with them side by side in the high iron mineralized ground where I usually detect, depth is virtually identical using the same sized coil and with similar settings.

You can't go wrong with either the Legend or the 700.

Big question is what are you willing to learn? Some machines have longer learning curves that others but in the long run they usually turn out to be the ones people like and stick with. I could buy a new machine right now if I wanted. I'm sticking with what has served me well and that is the E-Trac. Old machine by today's standards, but highly effective. It's basically a matter of choice. They ALL are top of the line units.

I would say that it might depend on what you're coming from.
If you've had one manufacturer or the other before, you may want to stick to that brand, as there will be enough similarity to make the transition smoother.

I am going to ask you a question that no one has asked previously (what type of detecting are you going to be doing) with the detector you will be purchasing coins and jewelry, with some nugget detecting thrown in LOL or just coins and jewelry, Beach detecting (Salt Water) these are questions that need to be thought about.

if your main detecting is coins and jewelry only, either will work, but if you intend to detect for gold nuggets i personally would purchase the Legend, simply because of the dedicated gold mode and the 40 KHz that the Legend is capable of running, the build quality of the Legend is tops bar none

I have a friend that uses a nox 700 and 900 and he actually prefers the Legend over the nox 700 and 900 because of the round shaft on the 900 and 700 so little things matter in my opinion, he says you have to constantly keep rotating the shaft on the nox 700 and 900 to allign the coil while detecting, the Legend you do not have to do this
