For You Smokers Who Want To Quit

After reading this thread I have decided to go to the local ecig shop and try them myself. Just a coincidence that as I was reading this yesterday my wife said her coworker has quit using these. Time for me to quit too.

There is no excuse for smoking, but it has been my only weakness. My father was an alcoholic, but I never had a drinking problem. Maybe it was because I saw what it did to the whole family. Nicotine is a very powerful drug and I have read where the Cocaine addicts said it was harder to quit smoking than using Cocaine.
Only the future knows if it's to late for me, but I want to say this to the younger people.
Don't ever start a bad habit and you won't be trying to quit it or dying from it.

Great thread DG! I smoked for 50+ years. I quit last September. I joked for years that "I would quit eventually one way or the other". Last year it was nearly the other. Four days in the hospital gave me a jump start on quitting. Here is the sad part. The addiction is so strong that I would still smoke If I could. :( In order to smoke, you must be able to breathe. I can't seem to do both. I chose breathing. Feel better. Stink less. Save money. No more burn holes in my good suit. No more freezing outside in winter to smoke. More energy. ETC. ETc. Etc. etc. . . . Good luck with whatever method you choose to use to quit. Get help from your doctor and friends and family members who are supportive. Change your activities to include things that don't allow for smoking. Movies, library, club meetings, church, swimming (makes em real hard to light) volunteer at hospitals or schools one day a week. Put them down today and do it again tomorrow and the next day until you begin to see yourself as a FORMER SMOKER. You will be amazed when you find out how many of your friends used to smoke too. (You will also be able to hunt longer - if she will let you.)

Are any clinical studies that show if sucking in water vapor into your lungs is bad?

It'll be 2 years next week that i quit thanks to ecigs.
I've used a couple of different mods, but have settled on the provari for the last 12 months.
With a vivi nova tank and a 2.8Ohm cart the provari is a treat @ 4.5v.
I mix all my own Juices now and the cost for a full 12 months worked out at Just under $90.
To begin with i was using 24mg nicotine content but i am now down to around 10.5-11mg depending on how many drops of Vodka i throw into the mix
Of course, the only downside of all this is that you are still nicotine dependent
and after 2 years i had really expected to be down to a fat zero and just vaping to keep my hands busy.
I guess knowing that while these things are pretty safe when compared to analogues, the desire to quit completely will never go away.
If you plan on using e-cigs, set yourself a goal. If you try and drop just 1mg a month, in 2 years you COULD end up nicotine free!

I switched to e-ciggs 2 months ago, smartest thing i ever did

I use south beach smoke

I'm sure it's as safe as using a humidifier when you are sick, or inhaling steam vapor, etc.. It's So much better than smoking!!

I quit smoking back in 2005 Cold Turkey due to fear of death.. I smoked about a pack and a half a day and it got to the point that I couldn't walk to the mailbox and back without huffing and puffing and feeling out of breath. So I took my last cigarette puff right before midnight as it turned Mother's Day.. that was a present to my wife and now it is almost 9 years ago and I feel so much better!

I actually took a puff once or twice afterwards and coughed my brains out.. it's nasty.. so glad I quit... I really hope you guys can quit!!

I lost my mother to smoking in 2011, she died after months of being on oxygen and struggling to breath.. getting out of bed to go to the bathroom and then the trip back was horrible.. :(

in 2003 my Grandmother died of lung cancer and that was a horrible experience for her and very sad and long and dreadful for everyone else who felt helpless and unable to help someone we all loved...

now my Dad is 67 and still smoking so I copied all your posts and sent it to him.. I hope that he gets it in his head it's not too late to QUIT SMOKING and these eCigarettes are the best way!! there are good ones out there.. better than the $20 ones you get at 7-11

Good luck to all you who are going to try this!

Love you Dad - quit smoking!

There it is. The post I have been looking for. You just made it worth the time I put into starting this thread.
It's going to be different and it will take a few days to get use to it, but the changes you will experience will be worth it. Thank you so very much.

Okay, you got me good. I just broke down and cried. I haven't done so since 10-15-07 when my mother died because of a lack of oxygen due to lung cancer caused by smoking.
So why is this 60 year old country boy crying? I feel like I have made a difference. I just fell apart with emotions that I have never felt before in my entire life.
Again, thanks to everyone for joining in.
Please help keep this thread going.
I am done. I am mentally spent.

Tell your Dad that I said to please try it and give it a week or two. Please keep us posted.

Good for you... Stick with it, it takes a while to get used to the adjustment but you'll start to take to it within a week or 2.
Keep telling yourself "this is what i now smoke"
In 3 months the smokers wheeze when you lie in bed goes.
In 6 months the constant coughing goes.
In 9 months 20 stairs won't feel like 200.
After a year, you'll remember just how good you felt before you started smoking in the first place.
Keep this thread going by giving us a month by month progress update.
Good Luck.

Went for my semi-annual checkup and my doc said there was a huge difference in what he heard in my lungs. I have enjoyed the benefits you mentioned and more plus it really feels good to be free of the dependence.

I've been cutting down on smoking for the last month or so, but I just dug out my e cigarette to see if I can quit altogether.
Thanks to everyone who posted in here without sounding preachy doing it. I've tried quitting before, but the preachy people always cause me to rethink the quitting decision.

Nice to see that this thread is encouraging a few folks to quit smoking.

I'll be 40 years old next month and I smoked from the age of 15 until 38. I was up to more than 2 packs per day at one point. About a year ago I got really short of breath and it just felt like I couldn't get enough oxygen.. so I went to the doctor and they did some tests. The nurse told me that it could be COPD which was scary, but when the tests were completed it turned out to be Adult Asthma. Either way, it was enough to scare me into giving up cigarettes. I asked my doctor how she felt about e-cigs, and if she thought they were a healthy alternative to smoking. She said: "Absolutely. I highly recommend ecigs over cigarettes. Nicotine isn't good, but its not what's killing thousands of smokers every day. Its the tar, heat and hundreds of other chemicals that come from tobacco cigarettes. All of which you can avoid by making the switch to electronic cigarettes." Anyway, after leaving the doctor's office I never smoked another analogue. That was a year ago this month.

The point is, I had always put off quitting until I started seeing health issues. I was lucky in that it was something that is easily treated, but a lot of folks aren't so lucky. So its better to stop putting it off and quit now before serious health issues arise.

Good luck to those of you who are trying to quit. Its not easy, but with products like e-cigs available to help, its not that difficult if you put your mind to it.

I'm going on 8 hours and this ecig is working great. Even after a few beers:grin:

And the good bit is, you can chuff away on that thing while you're sitting at the bar.:D
There's about 6 people in my local using e-cigs so it's a common sight and is actually encouraged by the owners.
I guess it saves them emptying ashtrays every 30 minutes.

I smoked for almost 30 yrs......switched to the e-cig December of 2011 and haven't had a cigarette since then. I first started of with a 808 unit and then progressed to the joytech ego batteries with 6 ml cartomizers, battery lasts all day and i'm not having to refill on juice every couple hours. if your lookin for a great selection of e-juice with super fast shipping check out Mt. baker vapor...the rootbeer is awesome
