Has anyone noticed if you have emi on a site with a lot of nails and if you stay in the nails, the emi go’s away. The signals in the ground over powered the emi. As soon as you leave the heavy nails the emi comes back. I have been able to hunt some heavy emi sites and find some good things.

Where I'm at the EMI just makes it to where you can't tell a good signal from a nail. Lowering the sensitivity or switching to a higher single frequency works too.

EMI is the single biggest problem I’ve ever encountered, hands down. If available, a smaller coil obviously helps too. Smaller antenna, less EMI received…in theory. It is beyond annoying…

I use the noise cancel on my E-Trac a lot when I suspect that I'm getting an EMI problem. A lot of the time the machine will find a quieter frequency for me.

FWIW, I've not seen that behavior on my Apex. I don't know about your machines, but the Apex has a choice of "channels" which can be selected to find a quieter channel. My 1903 farmhouse has several high-tension powerlines going through the property, so EMI was a big concern. But I've always been able to find a quiet channel even directly under the towers. That said, if I'm near an underground power line, I have to dial the sensitivity back a couple of notches, and I can go to about 2 feet on either side of the power line.
