While detecting in the forest with my buddy we came across several very deep silver coins in a flat area at the top of a hill. There were 7 coins in total (3 large and 4 small). The 3 largest are 1/2 Albus from Cologne and were dated 1500, 1506, & 1509. The 4 little ones are one-sided Pfennigs from The Palatinate. They are not dated but that type of coin was minted 1476 - 1508. When digging this type of coin, you must be careful as they are very thin and weak from being in the ground so long. You can actually break them with your pin pointer while probing if you press too hard. When found, they always have a black crust which must be cooked off (by boiling in olive oil and lemon juice). Here is some before and after pics. I'm also adding a better pic of the 1/2 Albus from the NGC online catalogue. These coins were weakly struck and have most of the detail missing. Thanks for looking!
