Years ago I worked for the auto companies in Michigan, and I had top notch Blue Cross insurance.

Paid no more than 10% for just about everything...eye, dental, health ect.
I had some gold crowns put in and then decades later, one tooth with a crown was extracted.
The dentist did not ask me if I wanted it back, I had to tell him that I did.

My property, I paid for it, I wanted it back.

I believe most dentists have a nice side business keeping this stuff and cashing it in for themselves if you don't speak up.

It wasn't worth much when I first got it, maybe about $25-$40, but I just kept it around and forgot about it for years.

I read a website that dental gold could have in it anywhere from 10K to 22K gold.

This crown is 4.7 grams and feels very heavy to me.
Gold hit $1700 this morning, and if this is 14K, which I suspect might be even higher, I have at least $150 worth of gold in my possession.

Getting a Compadre from Skiwhiz and this little yellow chunk will pay for the unit and shipping, with enough left for a nice dinner for me and the girlfriend after sending it to ARA if it is mostly gold, and it just might be.

Get your gold back from the dentist, folks.
Don't ask for it...demand it!
It's yours, not theirs.

I've had 2 gold crowns replaced. First one years ago before I was in the hobby and when gold was really low in price. Think I got $30. Still have the most recent crown, my "big" gold investment!;)

I have 2 gold crowns right now, but I'm still using them. : ) I guess I"ll just have to get my gold the old-fashioned way, DIG IT UP!

I wonder why they give us gold crowns? Why not silver? Gold is softer, more expensive...although it will not ever corrode. Hmm come to think of it. If you're eating eggs and all the other crap in your mouth - silver might get messed up after enough salt, etc.

I need to think before I open my mouth.

My friends dad is a dentists and he keeps the gold crowns. And every now and then he sends his son to go sell it at a jewellery store. The crowns come in all different k. Like digger said you need to demand your stuff or they will keep it and sell it later.

I read somewhere that dental gold is on the low side, maybe 10K. I think 22K would be too soft.

Dental Gold

I have 3 gold crowns now that I wish was still in my mouth
I hope they will bring enough $ for some plastic teeth

I lie in bed at night sleepless many times because when I look over at my wife, I know in the back of my mind, she has two gold fillings and I secretly "plot" ways to get that gold outta her head. Now that gold is over $1700 and ounce I bet I'll be having many more sleepless nights.:lol::lol:

I keep telling her to go have them things swapped out for silver so we can add them to our collection, she says I can have them when shes gone. Theres never any covert clandestine dentists around when you need em!

Oh well, I guess when she does have them worked on, we will have to "remind" the dentist that we would like the crowns returned.

I think my dad has a couple of gold fillings , when i go home to visit i will run my coil over his head and see what i find

If there is someone that you don't like that has a grill... now you be the time to knock their teeth out...lol

I used to buy a lot of old dental gold . People would sometimes come in & pull it right out of their mouth.
NOTE:

It is usually about 16 kt gold , so it's worth more than 14kt.

My father and I found these 2022 central Vermont. State Police we're able to connect them to anything. Anyones thoughts? Unsolved Mysterys

Most dental gold is 18K! An amalgam of gold dissolved in mercury. When in Japan on a visit, KT found an upper dental plate. This was years ago. It was one of the first things He recycled, it having 5 gold teeth and gold wires. His Majesty got just under $400 for it when sold for scrap!

And the starter of this thread is absolutely correct! You paid for it so be sure your dentist knows you want it!
