Coronavirrus

I have really really really really been trying to stay out of this conversation as these types of conversations and I tend to end up similar to the some of the more heated "Nox vs the world" urination contests. But as a health care professional, I place my full support behind the above statement by ToySoldier.

While the corona virus is a novel (meaning NEW) mutation of an otherwise common family of viruses and will likely affect many, universal precautions and just plain ole common sense will go a LONG way in maintaining an individual's overall health; both directly and indirectly. When I say universal precautions, I mean things like TS mentioned above, washing your hands with soap and water, staying home if not feeling well, etc... These do more to keep one generally healthier and to decrease the number of illness episodes; and thus keeping your immune system strong, healthy, and ready to kick some booty. In this context you will MOST LIKELY will be fine; worse case scenario you may experience a mild illness.

However, those who are immunocompromised (resulting from medications [immunomodulator drugs, chemotherapy], medical conditions [cancer, HIV, AIDS], age [very old and very young]) or have a predilection toward respiratory illnesses (such as smokers, COPDers, etc.) should take REASONABLE, increased precautions to minimize exposure.

Finally—fair warning here, I will NOT engage in any debate regarding the following statement—EVERYONE (except those for whom a medical contraindication exists) should receive yearly influenza vaccinations and pneumonia vaccinations (if eligible) as these vaccinations can reduce/prevent a "gateway" respiratory illness that can open the door for something like the corona virus.

In the end, try not to buy in to the partisan news scare tactics (no matter which side of the fence you are on). Those responsible for providing us with news get paid to figure out ways to fill 24-hour per day news broadcasts and in the absence of new, pertinent news tend to resort to just plain making s&!t up to fill space or incite panic.

There. Rant over, I will now excuse myself from this conversation.
It's not over till we say it's over !

I stopped going to Twin River Casino. When I collected my Super Bowl winnings on February 5th, the place was full of people coughing and sneezing everywhere! I ended up with the flu and was sick as a dog for 10 days. Not going back until football season starts in September. Hopefully, this virus will die out during the summer months.

I feel safer out on the beach than I do in a restaurant or a store or any place I got to sit next to someone . The one thing I am worried about is touch pads, door handles , and goods in a store.

I'm scared to death of it, everyone should stay indoors, especially those who live on historic sites or in areas rich in silver coins or gold rings. I am infected and highly contagious, If you see me detecting on your favorite hot spot do not engage, speak or even look at me, stay at least 100 yards away. Just go about your business for your own safety.

Recently I had to go to the ER. I was the only patient in the waiting room and I was sitting close to the admissions desk. A man came in wearing a face mask complaining of fevers, chills and said he had just returned from China!!

The clerk frantically tried to find a face mask and doing so, sliced her finger and blood was spraying everywhere. A nurse, wearing a face mask took the man outside. I was about to move to another seat when a third nurse whispered to me that it was just a drill!

Curious on everyone's thoughts on this. Is it changing your daily routines? Are you preparing for the worst case scenario or do you think it will be contained and gone soon? It sure seems to be spreading awful quick across the globe. Seems alot of folks are starting to work from home now.

Well my life has to go on. BUT I’m shying away from restaurants and malls for awhile.

A Month and a half ago I got into a auto accident and spent time in the hospital. I watched smokers come in smelling like fresh smoke and hacking all over to the the people looking for Oxycodone stuff. All hacking all over then it hit me that if you don't take care of yourself beforehand, This flu could make you sick and daily habits will dictate how long or how your body deals with it.

Haven't heard of the wildfires in Ar,where are they at? We ride down to Eureka springs couple times a year. Really like the riding in the area

As much as I want to think it is just media hype, I'm starting to believe it's a lot more serious than originally thought. Are any of you watching what's going on in China? It is a complete madhouse over there. Also, within the last week, we have had over 20 deaths in the USA. The high school just down the street from me was quarantined because a teacher got back from China and was very ill. The entire School is closed until further notice, and all of the kids that attend this school were told to self quarantine for 30 days. The grocery stores in my town are empty, you can't barely get anything right now. My company has also stopped all international travel. I believe everybody is going to say it's not a big deal until it's in your own town, and in your neighborhood.

And comparing it to the flu is nonsense in my opinion. How can we compare the coronavirus to the flu, when the flu has circulated the globe multiple times and already has a foothold, meanwhile the coronavirus hasn't reached its full capacity yet. Furthermore, the death rate for the coronavirus is more than the flu. Only time will tell.

To amplify the differences further:
  1. We have vaccines and medicines to help fight the flu, we have nothing right now against covid-19.
  2. The mortality rate of covid-19, although not as high as SARS (another type of coronavirus) appears to be higher than the flu. As of this morning, we have 566 confirmed cases in the US and 22 deaths from it. That makes for a mortaility rate of 3.88%, versus about 0.2% for the flu.

If we had more test kits available to test more patients with, the mortality rate would likely go down (availability of test kits is so limited right now that only patients with significant symptoms are being tested).

The Corona virus has been affecting me for years. Every time I’m beach hunting I keep finding those darn Corona Caps!
All joking aside, keep a dispenser of antibacterial hand soap with you and for God's sake leave your hands off your face and out of your nose! Good luck!

I wasn't worried till the first reported case in Kentucky is in the same place that the Walking Dead all started from.

I SURE agree about those **** Corona caps. I see lots of the Corona bottles out in the woods too.

Yes that's the most important thing about this virus. Keep hands clean, and hands away from face, nose, mouth. and eyes! Germs can get in through eyes which are another mucus membrane. Be smart about surroundings and the threat is much less.

I periodically work on a military base. They had an active shooter drill. It would freak you out if you didn’t know. They informed me prior to it but they didn’t inform everyone because they wanted to see the response.
