Hi, newbie here. My name is Tony. I'm from south eastern mass. Got my first ever detector Friday. Have a Bounty Hunter 1100. This is one of my first finds. I'm assuming it's a hunk of copper since it's green. This registered under silver/copper. Pretty exciting hobby. Enjoying it very much already.

Here is the size of it in relation to a tennis ball.
Found on a wooded path next to a high school that used to be the site of a mansion in the old days.

Interesting find!

Here in Wisconsin you can find float copper which was deposited from the glaciers during the last ice age. I wonder if this is something like that?

Another welcome to the forum. No doubt in my mind, that's kryptonite.
lol. Iyou find out what it really is let us know. interesting...:?:..Gil

Agbykyle, I from your neck of the woods also. I not aware of any local copper sources but it was prized by the native americans. Could have been brought in for trade from the Great Lakes area where there are some surface deposites. Could also be copper slag from colonial times ??? At any rate it certainly is a keeper!

Thanks for the responses. Much better than my wifes response of "what'd ya bring that piece of junk home for?" lol
Guess she'd better get used to it, I'm hooked now. This is an awesome hobby, don't know why I never stumbled on it before.
Glad to hear others like Jeff are from my area.
As far as the weight, it weighs approx. 1 lb.
I'm trying to do alot of research before I go places. Being new to the hobby, it's hard for me to figure where to go at first.
I'm just taking advice from you good people here which is why I hit a school.
I have a book that's a pictorial history of my city and according to the book this present school site on a few acres was once an estate that was bought out for a school.
My city (the silver city) is pretty rich in history dating back to the 1600's.
The wooded path I found this on is next to one of the roads that dates back to this period.

Agbkyle, The "Silver City" does indeed have a lot of history. I once saw a hand-carved slate gravestone in an ancient cemetary (no I did not MD there) that said the person died in 1689 ! The person was 94 when he died. Do the math !!!

I'm just down the road in the Mill City.

Welcome to the forum and hobby. I live in Western Mass and have never seen anything like that around here.
