First of all I am brand new at this and have about 3 days of experience. I found this yesterday and I'm trying to figure out what it is? Maybe I should take a wire grinder to it?
It was found 3 to 4ft down with xp Deus 2 on beach program. It was under sand right about the high water mark. Local surveyer ruled out a boundry marker. Found on a beach in a remote place in the Bahamas, but an early settled place with lots of history. Iron and weighs about 5 pounds. Just over a ft long.

A 5 gallon electrolysis tank should clean it up. A wire wheel would work too, but a little aggressive IMO. Hope someone recognizes what it is, cool relic!

Probly not but that shape seems familiar....

Welcome aboard.
As heavily incrusted it is it's had to tell the original details.
Just a guess maybe a large tent

Just a guess maybe a large tent stake.
Kinda seems like a big stake or spike. Like a beach or sand anchor. For an old jolly boat from a pirate ship. Lol

I found a token that electrolysis cleaned up pretty nice but I didn't realize you could do a 5 gal bucket! I will look into the power source for that.

Update...got back to this. Knocked the encrusted parts off then stuck it in an electrolysis bucket and here ya go. Any ideas?

Looks like some kind of nautical hardware of some kind, possibly from a steamship. I wouldn't recognize it as a component from a sailing vessel. I have a buddy who was a ship captain. When I see him again I'll ask him if he recognizes it. Are you in the Out Islands?

Well it has some sort of piloted flange due to the shoulder on the back of the broken flange. Is the long portion a solid metal or pipe? The shouldered flange throws me off. I would guess it had a gasket. It is definitely designed for a fluid or compressed air system in my opinion. Strange find indeed.

Looks like a fuel or other liquid fill for a boat or ship. The flange would screw flush to the deck or gunnel and the center part with the raised bar is the cap that screwed into the flange, and then the pipe on the bottom.

Yes Eleuthera

Very much solid! Not a pipe. Probably weighs 5 pounds. It is all solid not a cap. It is an interesting round build up of the metal with the straight piece on the head then obvious bolt or rivet holes around the outside of the head. Looks like the head was broken off not cut

Groundsweeper you are the man. I knew I had seen this before. When you said boat drive it clicked. I believe it is one part of a drive shaft for a boat prop. I found a newer version, but the bold patterns match pretty well, and the rubber flex coupling insert is piloted for the flange. At least this is what I think it is. Shaft is just rust welded in the coupling half.Coupling.jpg
