I bought an ace 250 last year just to see if I would like this hobby and I love it. So once it gets a little warmer outside (wind chill forty below this morning) I want to get back out there with a better dectector. My question is which is the best one out there or which company offers the best one. I'm looking to spend a 1000 give or take a few hundred.
Thanks
Steve

The best one for what? It all depends on what you are hunting for.Gold, coins, relics so on. With a thousand dollars to spend, you can get a sweet machine.I'd stick with one of the top brands,Whites,Minelab,Fisher,Tesoro.Check them all out, narrow your decision down to a few you think would work for your situation, then ask for opinions on those.
Theres a guy on here,Tony<that sells them, uses them, and can help you narrow the search. But you've gotta know what you want the machine to do.
Good luck!!!!!

I want it mostly for looking for coins but I also would like it to be able to find gold for my yearly trip out west.

thanks

I agree with Okie on this one. The MXT is based on the Goldmaster platform and will do well for coins and gold. The 15Khz operation is more sensative to smaller targets like nuggets yet will still find the coins also.

My opinion is also a little biased but the MXT is and excellent choice and cheaper than a thousand dollars to allow for some nice additions: coils, headphones, pinpointer, etc.

hey tony, I'm sure you have tried most of the top of the line metal detectors. Whats the main difference betweens whites MXT and the DFX. and also should I look at the explorer II. I just want to make sure I Buy the right one for me

They are incrimentally better. i primarily use a DFX because I like to program it. The EXII however I feel is still a better overall detector. The difference comes in with the pinpointing and depth capabilities. The DFX pinpoints better , the EXII goes a bit deeper. I have used them all and would pick the EXII firat , the DFX second and the MXT third. This is all based on overall performance. The MXT would still be a better gold nugget finder however.

You couldn't go wrong with any of the above mentioned machines. If you have the chance to pick up and hold these machines, test the feel and balance of each, and see which one fits you best. Remember, this is the machine you will be swinging all day every day, and if it don't feel good to you, you may not be real happy. JMHO

I'm going to keep it for my dad to use when we both go out. As of now when he goes with me we take turns and it kind of sucks. (only when its his turn)

Ha ha ha, I know the feeling. Before my hunting buddy got his metal detector, I'd let him use mine from time to time (mostly to convince him to buy one). He found a really nice silver ring which I think sealed the deal. Sure sucked that he found it with my metal detector though
