I don't really care if you like pics more than videos....However stating that by posting a video to the forum suggesting one is not contributing is BS and I will call it as I see it....
Here's my constructive criticism, Fivepin. It isn't the posting of the video links alone that's causing the blowback here...sure, videos can be a fantastic contribution to the site. I think it's the monetization of the videos combined with the optics of your posting history that's getting under people's skin and causing the blowback here.
I used the advanced search function on this forum and here's what I see: A forum member whose only posts are new threads which showcase a link to his own YouTube page, which is monetized. The exception to that fact is the forum member very occasionally also responds to comments left by other members within his own created thread in response to the monetized video, much like what has occurred in this thread. The forum member has zero posts in threads created by other members. I'm sure I'm not the only forum member who has noticed this, and hopefully you can objectively understand that, regardless of what your true intentions are, the optics look bad from that standpoint. One person's "contribution" is another person's "advertising".
Anyway, I'll let the moderators decide whether that kind of activity history is a violation of forum rule #5: "Promoting a Metal Detecting Website/Blog/Product- FMDF is not a "free for all" to help businesses and individuals promote a website, or to make money." Personally, I don't care, and I certainly don't begrudge your ability to put together a successful channel and monetize it. I personally just treat your posts like billboards on a road, advertisements to be ignored.
But here's my suggestion if you're still reading, because, again, my only intent here is constructive criticism. If you care to limit the blowback, post once in awhile in other people's threads and/or create an occasional thread without video links - contribute something other than links to your own monetized videos. It helps show you care about the rest of the community here, and that you really aren't just here to funnel traffic to your monetized YouTube channel. Or you can certainly carry on as you have been, it's certainly no skin off my back - just realize you lose the ability to get indignant when someone suggests that you're merely advertising, because it sure looks that way if you don't choose to put in the additional effort.
Just my constructive criticism - I wish you and your channel well.
