JD,

They sure are some great coins. I usually don't want to sell my finds, but I think I would have to let the dime go for $1200.00. It is valued at $675 in MS-63 condition. The coin without arrows is valued at $1100.00 in the same condition. I can sure understand your reluctance to part with them though. They are great finds in anybodies book.

P.S.

My mistake the 1853 O with arrows is worth $1,000.00 in MS-60 condition.

yes carol in missouri, i have found better coins in missouri than in pa. I got lucky i live along the missouri river Hernando Desoto was in Missouri in 1541 it was settled by the french 1670's sold to spain in the 1750's and had many town and settlements long before lewis and clark came here im right in the perfect spot!!
So we here in Missouri with a little luck actually have a chance to find older stuff than most of the people on the east coast :) I was pleasently surprised when I learned that!! lol

LOLO Rich im always looking at the book to make sure too!! hehehe

Don't forget your 1873 Double Die Indian Head penny, that did make a magazine story did it not? If i remember correctly you found it at the base of a tree, correct?

You should tell some details about the hunts when you found these special coins. Like what you expected the area to produce in terms of finds. Also other interestings facts about the day in question when the great finds were exposed for the first time in over 100 years. Those new to the hobby could get some insight from your experiences.

J.D. your site is entitled "The Greatest Treasure Hunters In the 21 ST Century," Did I miss the link to the other treasure hunters? I see only your finds, am I missing something? I would love to read their stories too.

a person started the site 2 years ago and was gonna have website based on diff. people who detect, i was the first and apparently the only one who said yes to him, after the accident and not knowing if i was gonna detect again I asked him to take it down and it was offline for about 9 months. I took it over about a month ago and have been making changes slowly im no where as good at it as he was. I wanted to change the name and URL but after i put it back up with out even telling a single person it gets over 200 hits a day many from bookmarks so I never did change anything..
I think im gonna change it to "the greatest metal detectorist of the 21st century" has a nice ring to it :) hehe

hey westernlegend1 i mean "Pete" you have 996 posts here so you like to write and tell stories send me your stories and pics of your finds and id be happy to put them on the site!!

Just go copy any of mine you want. Tnet has the only Dahlonega gold coin ever found metal detecting in the Best of Tnet. You can have that one. Then go to Treasure Quest and if you want them, you can copy off any or all of my stories on their web page. And if your interested I might have a TQ "Best Finds" shirt for you. I'll have to look for that one. That shirt would look sharp on your site!

Say did you ever have a second hunt for Tnet members or were you hurt at the time it was to take place?

western the second hunt was in caldwell kansas last year at the site of the chisolm trail, the 3rd was held last month at an estate site in the Lousiana Bayou..
I believe in the fall a new forum hunt will take place. its taken on a life of its own :)
