I found a 1786 Spanish colonial silver coin on my property today. I am fairly new to detecting and I am not sure if this is a rare find or not. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and happy hunting!

I wish I could post a pic, but I cant figure out how to. My computer wants to open a new window in explorer, then asking me to type a url address of the picture. I would gladly email anyone who wants to see it, maybe someone that knows how to post a picture.

Make a photobucket account and use it to post pics. all you do is copy the code link and past on the thread. Very easy and photobucket is free.

Hope this works. Any info about this would be greatly appreciated. Is it a common VT coin find?

Doesn't look like your attempt at a photo worked. Although I am not from Vermont, I feel I can safely say that this is not a commonly dug coin - even in Vermont. Good luck on getting the pic uploaded. Can't wait to see it!

Fellow Vermonter here. Can't see the photo but I've found a few in my area certainly not common coins. How big is it compared to a modern coin? They come in 1/2, 1 , 2, 4 and 8 reales. If u google Spanish reales you'll find websites that show u how to read the details on the coin like location of mint

Alright got your photos to work. Looks like a CAROLUS III 1/2 real. Minted in Mexico I believe. Keep searching your lawn i bet there is more coins.

Thanks for the info on this coin guys! Best I can find is it is a "r" 1/2 reale about the size of a modern dime. I have searched what seems like every inch and didn't find anything else of that period yet, but I will update any new finds in that era. Happy hunting!
