I boarded the USS Ogden LPD-5 in 1985 at Long Beach for my first float. We had a guy that walked up the gangplank for the first time...saluted the colors...saluted the Quartermaster...requested permission to come aboard....then walked across the flight deck and puked over the side.
All we could tell him was "Just think Roger, only 5 months, 29 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds and it will be all over."
I was on an LPH on a Med cruise , after pulling out of Beruit in 84 , we stopped in Israel for 2 days . I got 2nd day liberty , a couple of us rented a car and tried to drink Israel dry , it didn't work . But the next morning we pulled out , sea's got a little rough , I had to go toward the front of the ship for a haircut , sat in the Barbers chair , I could feel the nose of the ship rise and fall , good thing that barber finished when he did , I didn't get sick but I wasn't far from it . I spent the rest of the day in the middle of the boat nursing a bad hangover , close to the head .
