Yet another silly season of "The Curse of Oak Island" coming up!

You can't disprove that Leprechauns are real just because you've never seen one. Therefore, you can't disprove the Oak Island Treasure isn't real just because the Laginas haven't found it yet. ......

Sure. But the million dollar question is : "What is more plausible: No fabulous treasure ? Or fabulous treasure"

I mean, if your above quotation was to bolster the plausibility of fabulous treasure : Then SO TOO CAN I SAY THE SAME THING ABOUT MY OWN BACKYARD !

Eg .: "Just because I can't disprove the treasure in my backyard, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. "

If you agree that this logic bolsters the plausibility of fabulous treasure , then I will be a nice guy and let you come dig for treasure, in my backyard, in Monterey CA. My rates are reasonable: $100 p/h. A small price to pay knowing that a fabulous treasure has to be there, RIGHT ? :cool3:

(PS : I know you don't really believe the O.I. nonsense, so this was all tongue in cheek to the O.I. faithful, for the song & dances they probably spout)

You've obviously misinterpreted my post. It's the "believers" who'll say that just because no one's found the "treasure" yet doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Which is more likely to be real? The Easter Bunny or the Oak Island Treasure? I'll cast my vote on the Easter Bunny.

And on the next exciting adventure of The Oak Island Treasure.......Gary Drayton is ready to dig up another "historical " artifact and wow us with another of his famous "bobby dazzlers" but just as he's starting to swing his detector, he looks up and posted on an old Oak tree is a sign that says.......NO METAL DETECTING

"Naked and Afraid" really gets me. They're usually near a body of water, but they're always filthy dirty! How about hopping into the water and cleaning yourself up a little bit? Yuch!
I've never watched the Naked and Afraid show but I'm wondering....what the heck are they afraid of ? Maybe they're afraid they'll run out of Lume and Mando.

Actually doesn't the clad most MD'ers find dwarf the treasures found at Oak Island? Going by that rational if
the OA guys are considered successful treasure hunters then with my $3.67 in odd clad and one gold ring found
in the last 6 months makes me a legendary treasure hunter... And some of you out there would be bordering on
divine level as treasure hunters!
Just about all of us on this forum have found WAY MORE than they'll ever find.

That was the blurb for the latest episode. So what were the unprecedented finds they unearthed? A rusty nail that fell out of "The Ark of the Covenant" or maybe a coconut husk that Captain Kidd used as TP? Can't wait to hear this one!
I think everyone is missing the point. It isn't just that it was a rusty nail that fell out of some old "Ark of the covenant" It was exactly How the nail was positioned after it fell. Obviously it couldn't fall in that exact manner unless the Ark was held by the Templars. Anyone with any basic knowledge of how Templars hold Arks could have solved this rather quickly.
Now had the rusty nail fallen any other way you might have an argument against. I am just really shocked that more people don't know this.

There's going to be 20 episodes this season and they're being paid 100k each episode. So they're each making two million a season. If that doesn't tell you that the show is a total scam, then nothing I say will convince you.
It also tells us that, in addition to it being a scam , there's a ton of people falling for the scam or the show and "digs" would have been cancelled a long time ago. I wonder how much the self-anointed "metal detecting expert" Gary Drayton is being paid.

....... there's a ton of people falling for the scam or the show and "digs" ......

That just goes to show how attractive "treasure" is to people. It's only natural. We want SO HARD to believe in the allure of treasure that : We put common sense and critical thinking aside. Because, shucks, no one wants to get "laughed at all the way to the bank", eh ?

I was on YouTube last night and some Oak Island conspiracy video popped up... "Government Cancels Oak Island Because of Shocking Find" or some other clickbaity title. Made me think of this thread briefly and smile. People would rather believe a comforting or entertaining falsehood (intentional or not) than an unpalatable fact.

I figured out by the end of the first season that a 1 hr show that has pretty much 3 "give or take a few" new possible Treasure clues per show in which they hype 10 minutes before a commercial just to recap the same hype for 5 more minutes after the commercial just to hear someone say OMG it's a piece of "OLD TIMBER", a "NAIL" etc.

Then we get to the end of the show where they hype next weeks clue for another 5 minutes only to be met next with with the same exact thing. This is where Tom's Critical thinking 101 comes in handy. For one it's a SHOW, Let's say they found a treasure the second week of the show....No more show. The point of a show is to make money as long as people are willing to watch and give it hight ratings. My guess at this point in life is that most of the ratings for the show come from the fact that some people like watching TV and are really board with everything else that is on.

If a treasure was actually found it would have been on the news and all over the internet to begin with.

The original treasure was supposed to be pirate treasure. In ten seasons, this stupid show has somehow gone from pirate treasure to nonsense about the Knights Templar and a possible location for the Holy Grail or the Ark of the Covenant! What a crock! This is a perfect example of trash TV at it's worst.
We have all seen much much worse , this is a show about hope and a journey . Its not about murder or rape or worse . I agree it can be abit boring at times , but it keeps the imagination going and I dont have to hide my kids from four letter words .
I myself find it to be a great sleep inducer at times LOL - Who knows maybe they will find more things interesting about history in our kneck of the woods . I've just about given up on real treasure , but some of what they discuss historically makes one wonder about what was really going on around this kneck of the woods .

I enjoy the show and look forward to seeing just what “might” be found each week. It is entertaining at times and a welcome escape for one night a week. It appeals to a lot of interests; research, metal detectorists, treasure hunt enthusiasts, engineers, heavy equipment fanatics and those who only wished they had the time and money to pursue such an adventure.

I also like that the fact that it is family entertainment with little or no controversy. Even this thread is relatively free of negativity toward the story. There is a time and place for scrutiny of a tale but I think this one is best to just watch and see what happens.

There are other interesting treasure tales out there for discussion but I doubt any are as wholesome or free of controversy as OI.

I did a brief word search of some terms in this thread and how many times they might have been used regarding OI. I was quite surprised with the results of how many do not even appear in this thread. I suppose this is the mark of a good tale and good tv show. I'm afraid some other treasure tales wouldn't fare so well. Here are the results:

If you've been watching this for 11 years and still waiting to see what they'll find, I don't know what to say. Spoiler alert! They've NEVER found anything of significance and they'll NEVER find any treasure there. This show is about the Lagina brothers getting paid 100k an episode to find nothing. Every episode is the same. Dig here, drill there and never find anything. Sorry, but this really is trash TV at it's worst.

Well said Tim ! And sure, you can "enjoy it". Granted. But just be aware : Nothing is there.
