$$$$ Would you return it?

I would immediately post a huge sign that reads "FOUND!! Old rusty crusty ring (bracelet, tiara, crown, etc) which is missing the stones and almost all the glitter. Looks like a cheap piece of junk. If it's yours and you want it back, please send irrefutable proof of ownership, including notarized receipts of purchase along with recent photos of you wearing the piece. Also please include a non-refundable deposit of intent to retrieve of $50 to cover storage, shipping, insurance and the cost of a nice steak dinner.

I will return your property within six months or as soon as conditions allow. "

That should solve your dilemma.......

If someone asks me to find their lost treasure , yeah I'll give it back . If I find someones lost treasure on a hunt , I won't bother. Why? They could have gotten a MD and found it themselves. That's laziness in my eyes!

That is not necessarily true, Maybe that ring was inherited from a lost parent as just 1 example. That don't make the recipient automatically able to afford to lose anything. I know of many people that struggle in life but have wealthy parents.
Now lets use your wording of someone who is able to lose a 30K ring, does not need it back without even going into the issue of is turning it in the morally right thing to do, But instead i will ask you just because they can afford to lose it does that make it right to keep it? Would you give it back to a poor person in the same situation? Just wondering about your theory here as it kind of reminds me of penalizing the wealthy for being successful.

How is the air all the way up there on your pedestal? Seriously man, give it a rest already. We get it. You're the moral police. Don't you have anything better to than piss into the wind?

Well this is an easy one. I returned a ring that was lost in 1954. In fact a lot of the rings I have returned were lost in the water before 1980. People looked the best they could back then BUT machines were limited and expensive.

AND you have NO idea if they have tried to find it BUT didn't know exactly where they lost it OR they missed it with their swing by half an inch. I was told of a ring that was lost at a lake IN a swim area the day they lost it. THREE years later I stumble across it. Just never hit the spot it landed. And yes it was returned to her.

I haven't tried to return any ring class ring from the 30's or earlier. I have found quite a few. My earliest is a 1901 class ring.

Again there is absolutely NO right or wrong way to disperse of your finds. You do what you feel is right. And I will do what I feel is right and we all get along.

In one sense i would always say yes, however the sentimental value of the items may not be 100% applicable even to all valuable jewelry. i have seen people walking around in wastefully expensive watches and earings etc, that im sure they care about sentimentally FAR less than a class ring. The ring brings back memories of school, whereas wasteful gaudy jewelry only brings back memories of the pricetag.

that said i believe it is always our duty to attempt to return lost property. However i also recognize rules arent concrete, "would you kill a baby, no. what if it was hitler? shucks you got me there."

At least you live paycheck to paycheck. I haven't even gotten a paycheck in years!.

I would gladly return the item to the owner as long as it wasn't too much of an imposition to me. Honestly I'm not going to go very far out of my way to locate them but it would have nothing to do with the value.

Not sure what pedestal that you are talking about as i don't consider myself better then anybody else. This thread wasn't meant to make you feel guilty and has had lots of good replies whether the person decides to return or not to return. Now for your arrogant nasty attitude, Take a hike and find a personality!!!!

Well, that was rude.[/QUOTE

Do you expect me just to take it and not say anything? I posted a simple question wanting to know who who return and who would not. And speak of rude your posts in this thread have been rude as well.

Yup and the jelly comment referring to this thread is toast was waaaaaay down the line as well but i see a lock coming.

So Popatop - Did you really create a fake ID and a fake ad on Craig's List with a picture of Docs ring???

Why would you do that?? You don't even know the guy. How is it any of your business?

Now I'm wondering if you will try to deny it (be careful), or just disappear. If, and I say IF this is indeed true, I cannot imagine you would be welcome on this forum.
