They other day the piece that goes into the lower shaft of the Excalibur that the coil is connected to slide out. Now I know it has to be epoxied back into place. My question is what type of epoxy do you guys use. And should I put epoxy down the part that goes into the lower shaft or just around the top that sits on the lower shaft?

I buy the White's " Tall Man Rod ", remove their fitting and replace it with the Minelab fitting. I use the Loctite Marine Epoxy and put some in the inside of the rod and on the fitting itself.

I do drill two sets of 3/32" holes in the rod at the fitting location but don't really think it's necessary. I've never had a problem doing it this way.

I also hit the fitting with a coarse sandpaper.

So I should hit it with some sand paper what grade would you suggest any rough paper or is there a certain grit

If you use the marine epoxy two part that sells for $4.99 you don't need to sand anything. Just mix up some and goop it on the parts. Push them in and let them sit over night. It will never come out again. You can also use simple adhesive caulk like for outdoor windows. It will also last forever and you probably already have some. Gorilla glue also will work well. You wet one part and glue the other. The reaction is like epoxy but will foam out a bit. One tip, be absolutely sure you are putting it in on the correct angle. Put the shaft into your MD and when inserting the bottom with the coil attached be sure it is flat to the ground. You only get once chance to get that right.

Well I just finished putting the connector back in the lower part of the shaft and left it sitting flat on the floor. I put some on the connector and on the part that touches the lower shaft on the outside. I may have used alittle to thick because it came out the top a little got on the yop of the coil so should I just leave it on there like will it hurt the coil to leave it on or should I wipe it off with rubbing alcohol when the connector has cured?

If you used the two part marine epoxy you won't be able to remove anything with alcohol. It will dry hard as a rock. Remove it now with a paper towel. If it is too late then don't worry about it. It won't hurt a thing.

I had wiped it off a much as I could with a paper towel. It was only a bit that had gotten on it when it speezed out when I put it the two pieces together

I should have mentioned that I wrap tape around the rod so all you have to do is peel it off before that epoxy hardens....on well , you'll know for next time.

Some may feel scuffing the surface of parts being epoxied isn't necessary but be assured, you will get a superior job doing it.
