I had planned on hunting both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Yesterday (Saturday), I headed out with NuBlu and found the surf conditions to have worsened beyond what I was expecting. I ran into PirateofallSeas who was working the wet sand and we chatted for a bit. I went into the water and spent most of the 2-hour hunt getting abused by the surf. I only hunted 2 hours because the battery connection failed. Best find was a gold-plated, Pandora “Metal” ring. It’s still in good shape so I’ll be able to sell it.
Even though I saw that surf conditions were the same today (Sunday) I decided to head out. It was almost a copy of yesterday’s hunt with very few targets. I thought the surf was a bit rougher than yesterday’s. I ran into PirateofallSeas again working the wet sand. I took a break again to chat with him and he told me the gold has been elusive. This time, on my way back, I was able to get out and work deeper water. I finally got to a rocky patch that has been like that for a while. This time however, there were some targets coming in. The big problem with working this area was that I was chest deep in the water with really strong currents that would just push me around. I was really manhandled a bit. On one of these targets I got a mid-tone signal that I really liked. It seemed that every time that I would set up, I would be moved. In that spot, it seemed like there was a vortex of opposing currents. I don’t think I have ever tried to retrieve a target in conditions like that. Well, after some time, I finally was able to set up the scoop and dig and when I looked in the scoop . I was happy that all that effort let to that very nice ring that I know was down there for a bit. The ring has a name and a date of “31-12-93”. This week is the Navy’s “Fleet Week” down here, so I was able to enjoy viewing an aircraft carrier offshore throughout my hunt. (PirateofallSeas sent me a pic that he took of it ).
