We were insulted on ESPN

Yeah a lot of my friends used to think seeing me detecting was funny. Then gold rings started popping up along with a Rolex last year. I've paid for 2 month long hiking trips trips to Spain (one with my daughter) with my detecting proceeds. They don't laugh anymore. :D ;)

Bahahahah wow I didnt catch this til this morning...

I am actually glad that the MD hobby comes with a stigma, connotation, taboo, etc. It keeps the stuck up people from becoming our competition.
Anyway, the guy's comment sounds pretty funny to me! Good one! It only gets stupid when you analyze it...like most "wise cracks"
BTW, I found a half dollar coin by a high school football field 50 yard line recently! Didn't lose any dignity at all!

I used to be a sports fan until they raised my cable bill one last time. 50 bucks or more for tv is just ridiculous. The NBA,NHL, NFL and Nascar have gotten to where if you don't pay you can't watch. It makes it hard to be a sports fan. I'd rather go detecting.

Amen to that !!!

I don't give them the time of day anymore.

You definitely gotta question the mentality of an announcer who watches a coin fall through a few inches of snow, leaving a big coin size whole in the snow where it went in and think they need a metal detector to find the coin.
Come on man!

Successful hunters have friends who finally just accept that they were wrong about the hobby. LOL I know mine do. Most of their wives eventually ask for or accept rings from my find box, too. LOL It's pretty funny to watch their husbands, as they coo over the rings they're wearing. The BEST part is when the gals (with "tongue in cheek," no doubt) tell their husbands, "I'd be ok if you took up this hobby." That's when the moment goes from nice to hilarious. :)

It's amazing how many of them I find. Ref coins, too. I probably pull 6-10 half-dollars a year out of sports fields. Pulled an Ike dollar from a ball field, once, too.

I also find lots of "large" foreign coins, that I can only assume a ref coins, too.

I find lots of good stuff with my $40 Harbor Freight 9-Function or the Bounty Hunter Jr. we got for $25. :mder:

Maybe if someone considering to MD heard it and decided not to, than it would be good for us.

+1 on the picture.

So I'm watching ESPN and they're talking about the overtime coin toss. The coin disappears in the snow and the commentator says that it would take about a $600 metal detector and your dignity to find that coin ! So we detectorists have no dignity ?.? Like to show him what else you can do with a detector and a little Valsoline !!

Words only have power over you if you give them that power.

Who cares what an insignificant commentator on a network that is hemorrhaging both viewers and employees month after month has to say?

I looked up "Reporter" in my Thesaurus and the alternate word is "Liar" they never report on anything that's true. They bend and twist everything just trying to sell more papers and who cares about the truth anymore. I laugh all the way to the bank.

If reporter came up as that, I'm betting a political sports commentator would rank even lower! Already so far below dirt, he would have to look up to find that coin!

 "Never let what another person thinks of you affect the way you think about yourself!" Thats both favorable and unfavorable BTW...

Its good to be comfortable in your own skin and not worry about what other people think...especially Strangers! Who gives a Tinkers cuss about what THEY think? Family is another matter...Used to say at the Family Weddings/Get togethers..."Half the people here I dont know and the other half I cant stand!"

I wasnt born with a lot of dignity, so this Sport suits me...I have nothing much to lose, although, I will NEVER take up Golfing as a hobby! Not even I would stoop that low!

"If I am to be insulted, I must first value your opinion."

Or... "I really care what a football color commentator thinks" said no one, ever.

I only let people talk and as far as dignity is concerned I'd rather be ridiculed and rich rather than dignified and bored. Tom you should see how people who laugh at the hobby turn real serious when I tell them about things I've found now that's dignity. As far as talk is concerned everyone always has something bad to say about anyone that's life and most of those NFL players are kids anyway and they don't stand for the flag. I don't watch football anymore because of it. I have a lot of veteran friends that deserve more respect than this act of defiance I see. No NFL for me I would have no dignity if I watch football. I'll just take my dignity to an old park better than watching disrespect unfold before my eyes.
