Wow, getting back into the detecting hobby for me in 2020 is very problematic.
It started with everything closed down nationwide, no city parks or anything else even if I had a detector. The parks finally did open back up locally, but I am still no closer to detecting outside my yard, even though I began early so I would be ready when they did reopen.
My new detector arrived with a bad on/off switch about two weeks ago. My replacement is working perfect, and surely will when I can do some detecting beyond my yard.
Days after that my budget friendly clone pinpointer starting falsing non-stop or would not detect anything (not even a shovel). Even when it did work, it detected along the shaft and not just the tip which I found a pain to use - and the reason I avoided the common PP choice money aside. Personally I'd rather use another Cen-Tech PP but they quit selling them and eBay sellers want a fortune. I returned it, and gritted my teeth and upgraded to a White's Bullseye II (waiting for delivery) that is claimed at least in mostly negative reviews to be what I want.
Today the gift to me, both from my wife and I, finally arrived on a slow boat from a retailer just north of me in Michigan. A Quest Wirefree Mate headphone system, see my photo. I charged the batteries to ensure it was good to go - nothing. The system never would connect to the receiver, the transmitter status kept flashing meaning no receiver found. After repeated attempts to pair them, even though they are factory set, nothing but wasted time. So another return filed, and waiting for the morning mail to ship back. Of course after the problems I read others on FMDF have had problems with it too. I just finished ordering a upgraded Garrett Z-Lynk Wireless System from Bart at Big Boys Hobbies.
If any of my replacement/upgraded items do not work either I will be at a loss. The last original order I got coming a NEL Sharpshooter coil (from Bart too) will also be a vast improvement. The one positive to all this is the extras I've gotten will work equally well in the Fisher/Teknetics series, or in nearly all cases any detector - if the time comes I ever do "upgrade" again.
Has anyone else been experiencing such problems with items ordered online too?! Perhaps it is quality control, something done in shipping now, or simply bad luck (repetitively). The old saying is "Third times the charm" and I just returned my third item - perhaps it will be a banner year once I get out to do some actual detecting.
Originally I wrote to review the Quest, and see what others have been experiencing too in buying detector goods lately, but it seems more like a rant no matter how I edit it.
