I guess I have a different take on all of this.
My wife is on SS and I am still working as I am a programmer and I worked at home anyways. The rest of my office is now working at home as well.
When this came about with the stimulus checks my wife and I decided that we really don't need the money. We decided to See how we could pay it forward to people in need.. but our Motto is "Charity Starts at Home" so we called all of our immediate relatives to see how they are doing. We did Not Mention the Stimulus checks.. Well turns out my Mom who has roommates who are out of work and unsure when they will even get their checks not to mention one of her roommates is stuck in Mexico so, no idea when she or if will be back had to call her landlord for the first time in 10 years to let them know that the Rent will be late..
Well although I haven't received any checks yet I sent her $2400 ( the amount of our stimulus).. I have to say it was a HUGE sigh of relief for my Mom..
So my thoughts are if you are out of work.. SAVE it .. you may need it.. If you are doing good still Pay it forward.. and remember "Charity Starts at Home" !!!
Good for you, SoOregonMd... I did the same thing for by brother, who owns a diner, with just a few employees. His business is down about 80 % or more and can only prepare takeout meals, mostly for his regular customers. He needs to pay rent on both his home and the business, so he’s hurting.
