Alright guys and gals, I need some validation before I go crazy. I have had a 900 since January after using an 800 for about 12 months prior. My question is this, is anyone seeing anything weird with TID #s with the 900 for silver? I have found 4 rosie's, 2 mercs, 1 seated with the 900 and all but 1 rosie the TID bounced from the 50s and 60s mostly with an occasional 80s but only once I moved around the target. I mostly use Park 1, ground balance, noise cancel, and go. I dug these signals based on tone because I would hear the brief high tone and the signal was consistent and indicated coin size object. None of them were any deeper than 5-6 inches. All I can figure is because I didn't have the horseshoe button on then there was some iron nearby lowering the TID. Does anyone have any thoughts?

A co-mingled target is most likely. I hate to ask but did you check the hole again and rescan the area after retrieving the silver. Silver should not come in that low. I have dug over 20 silvers with the 900 and with the exception of a few they all hit in the 90s. Just for sh!ts and giggles try a factory reset and run some air tests. It might indicate if there is something amiss with the coil or machine. Hope you get it sorted out. Good luck. Mark

Thanks for your reply, I called myself rescanning the hole but honestly can't say for sure due to the excitement of finding the silver. I will be more diligent going forward to see if that is my issue. I have done the factory reset and air test with a rosie is solid 83 but next to an iron object 50's with the high tone mixed in so I am with your first comment about co-mingled targets. I do get a lot of mid 90's and for the most part, they have been larger junk targets and I have wondered if high or mid 90's were falsing so I have skipped digging more than I probably should have. I can pretty much call a copper penny as it is very consistent as well as any clad or wheaties. Haven't dug any IHP with it yet. Do you use the 6-inch coil or the standard coil? I am thinking the 6-inch would help with co-mingled targets but can't seem to bring myself to commit to it for some reason.

Trash will manipulate numbers for coins on all machines.

The solid high 80s and 92 and all for the eq900 is for a coin in clean ground without iron or bits if aluminum around it.

That's why when you detect in high iron areas your only looking for targets above iron.

Your equinox is doing just fine it sounds like to me

Bamapulltab I do prefer the 6 in. coil and use it almost always. In my soil it will hit 10 in. coins no problem. At the end of the day you may cover more ground with the bigger coil but for me I prefer quality over quantity. The 6in slows your search down and makes you work a little more. By that I mean you are more attentive and pay more attention to your sweeps to make sure you cover every inch of ground as opposed to sweeping with a larger coil. Using the smaller coil, to me anyway is like reading between the lines, I hope this makes sense.
In the 40 + hunts I've had so far with the 900 98 & 99 have been all iron. I believe they call that wrap around, when the bottom iron #s roll back up top. I use 5 tone but when I get a high tone in the 90s and its not a definite coin signal I will switch to 2 tone. 2tone for me helps size the target, a coin will sound smooth and small, junk usually will be scratchy, break up and or elongated which will tell you right away its not a coin size target you are over. Now there is always a chance there is a good target in there with the junk and there is the conundrum. Do you dig or pass. I try to listen for even just a hint of smoothness in with junk signal but most times I pass. I hope this helps a little. Good luck and good hunting. Mark

That makes total sense and something that I've been trying to tell others. The only advantage of a larger coil is coverage for sites in which targets are few and far between. However, larger coils have serious disadvantages in trashy sites like parks, playgrounds, sports fields, iron infested sites, etc.

The smaller coil is a heck of a lot more comfortable to swing, and has far superior unmasking and separation characteristics. In addition, due to being able to run much higher sensitivity in EMI with the smaller coil, as well as able to run a lower recovery speed, the smaller coil meets, and often exceeds, the depth of the typical 11" round coils.

Thanks for the replies. This along with some tests I conducted confirms what I was thinking about multiple targets under the coil and how it reads. I think I will leave the standard coil at home next time and force myself to use the 6-inch and see what happens. Sometimes it is good to hear from others so you know you are on the right track and that is what I was looking for. Thanks again!

I have done very well in a sea of nails,by turning up the recovery speed. The ability of this machine to pick out targets in a sea of nails is impressive. My prior machine was a fisher f75. Out in a open field the 900 seems to be about equal to the f75. In the nails I found more with the 900 in a couple of hunts, than I found with the f75 in dozens of hunts at this site. I still have a lot more to learn about this machine, but I’m liking it a lot!

I just posted about my problem with the nox 800. It misses silver that it should easily pick up. Very broken signal of any at all. Great with coppers and bronzes.
