Older vs. Newer Coins

I am kinda at the point I am not going to find the bucket list coins if I don't make an effort to seek out the oldest places I can. I agree some people are stuck with 1900's coinage because they just don't have the history in their area. I am kind of in that situation myself. Pre-Civil War era is rare where I live, but I can make an effort to look for the oldest places possible. There is I guy that has been finding cut Spanish Reales within 40-50 miles of my location. While there may be very few places that old around here they can be found. I am to the point I'd rather be searching for the oldest coins possible for my area and finding less than hitting the sure thing places for silver coins I currently am digging on a somewhat regular basis.

I understand the hunt for the oldest is a big part of many detectorists. I've been very lucky and after 50 years the need for older has become less important to me. I've found a Roman back to 138 AD, a 2 Reale, and a capped bust. In southwest Kansas I can't expect much more, so fun is what drives me now, and spending hours and hours looking for the 1800s coin just is no longer my idea of fun. I like the easy stuff LOL.

Its all about the history for me so old coins and relics all day long, you can keep the 1900's silver and gold jewelry. I'm blessed to live in western Pennsylvania so I don't have to look too far for history. But I can tell you it takes a lot of research and scouting to find the oldest of places in any area. I'm talking places that are not on any maps and no cellar holes. BUT, I'm still a detectorist at heart so I'd happily hunt anywhere. The wife and kids are dragging me to a beach this summer so that'll mark my first beach hunt.
