Nox Noticings...

Yeah me too! I was a hold out. I got tired of being the guy with the latest and greatest only to be disappointed. I have a few hunts in with a 600. Much to learn. But the Equinox is very nice. From my Excal days which still happen.....I was thinking about a counter weight in the back of the shaft. Not much, but anything to take some weight of the front. Especially if the 15 inch coil becomes a part of my detecting. I saw a pic where a guy put a chunk of lead in the back of the shaft. Maybe?

Most new detectors have a learning curve.
My wife used a CZ 3D for many years and knew everything is was saying to her. She made many great finds with it including coins I have yet to find. Then we bought her the F75 and for a while her finds went down the tube. She stuck with it and likes it now, but I am sure it cost her some finds!

IMPORTANT! A funny and good thing I noticed...without the headphones, the handle actually vibrates due to the speaker being in the grip....the sound vibrations are transmitted right into your hand! so a guy can use this rig totally deaf! Or even in the dead of night to easily pinpoint the target by hopping coil! That was really cool! Like a vibra wand kind of feature!

YES! I noticed this too and it's really kinda cool. I don't think they engineered it into the design but it sure is nice.

Right?! I'm sure it wasnt thought out this way, just on account of the speaker vibes transmitting through the grip! I will say...I bet a guy could hunt with this wading with the brain underwater and no headphones on account of he will feel the vibes....Its an interesting side feature for sure...

I have played with it in the lake like that. It isn't perfect, but I can usually tell when it gets a hit. Much better, I am sure, with waterproof headphones. That will be next on the list, I guess.

Give it time John. Like any new machine there is the learning curve which for some can be frustrating. After 5 years with the AT Pro It took me some time but I believe the Nox is hands down a better machine in so many ways. Especially when using this machine at beaches. The back light is great for early morning and late evening hunts. I use a pair of Soundpeat wireless earbuds that one doesnt even notice are in ear. I think the Nox is actually so light I dont even notice the balance issue at all. I still use the At Pro at certain places but I favor the Nox most of the time and always at the beach. Keep playing around with it I think youll find its a nice machine.....PS I found early on the Nox was quite chatty and couldnt figure it out UNTIL I watched a youtube video. My Iphone I keep in my front pocket was actually interfering with the the machine. I simply turn the iphone on Airplane mode while using and problem solved. Its nice to have options with so many different machines that you have. Keep at it and continued success...HH !

Sounds like me and my DFX Mud-puppy. I used it for so long it was the only detectors that I could make work. I found many nice keepers over the years with that old detector and tried many new detectors and always went back to the old DFX because I had it down pat.

After 20 years that good old DFX just had pulled all the goodies from my favorite place it could. My hunts started to yield zero. It was either quit or find something that could do better if there was such a thing. Got me a E-Trac, because everyone else was find stuff in hunted out places, and forced myself to learn the new language. Boom, my finds exploded. I begin to think the old faithful DFX just wasn't as top gun as I thought it was. Lesson learned I'm now back to finding keepers again.

I also thought the Nox was a little nose heavy so I devised a way to add a little lead inside the tube near the arm cuff. I dig several pounds of fishing weights a year so I had plenty to work with. Sounds counter productive to add weight to a light detector but balance is much better and I hardly notice the extra ounces. Probably will pull them out when using the new 6" coil though. Good luck!

You can't force one detector to be something different. Minelab cut the weight as much as possible, but you cant really cut coil weight without turning it into a buoy in the water. You also arent going to be able to modify YOUR body mechanics to compensate for the front weight. You can't hold that beer stretched out in front of you for long without arm fatigue, its just facts.

So, your options are to shorten the shaft, or mount a counter balance under the arm cuff. Both have the same effect of moving the weight balance farther back.

Perhaps they should have made the coil a buoy... and add a 2nd coil cover , that will sink it, for water hunting..

I hear ya Mud. The first mod I did on my 800 came after the first hunt. The arm cuff is much wider than my arm, and with the balance of the machine, it pivoted with every swing, putting constant back and forth tension on my already suffering elbow area. For now, I have a foam can coozie cut and fitted into the cuff. It's a much better fit now. After some sweaty hunting, though, it started irritating my arm skin. I may line it with a cotton sleeve or something. The nox is much lighter than my old Eagle Spectrum, but needs some tweaks to be as comfortable. So far, no wobble in the shaft.
Love the easy to read display and good backlight. Love the wireless headphones, but want to get some lighter ones for hot summer days.
The battery ran out on the third day of hunting. I used a portable USB power bar zip-tied under the arm cuff. Worked great!
No rain in this town, so detecting isn't happening much for now. I may take a drive tomorrow...

use DetectorPro Detecting Pal support harness

Using the nox 8090 stock coil my arm, wrist and shoulder would get tired after 2 hours or less.
purchased DetectorPro Detecting Pal and have not had any more issues. It makes your detector seem to float and one nice thing when kneel down to dog the detector just follows you down slowly, but you kind have to push it towards your back because it likes to settle too close to the dig hole. Got mine for $24.95 plus shipping. very happy with it.

I noticed this as well. Couldn't figure it out until I watched a YouTube video...probably the same one LOL, but I can't remember which one it was. But yeah, my phone definitely causes some chatter with it too. Not sure if it makes a difference with what kind of phone it is but I'm running a Google Pixel 2 XL.
