Recently sent my 800 control mod/battery pack into Minelab for fixing as it was still under warranty (3 years ago I purchased it). As can be seen, after hundreds of hours on it, the control mod snapped clean off from the battery pack. Like to think its defective engineering to have such small plastic areas securing both front/back nto the batter stem, something that was mentioned in one of the newer manticore videos I saw they in strengthening their engineering via use of stronger carbon material, rather than hardcore plastics. Amyway, contacted Minelab via email, they got right back with me, shipped it off and a quick turn-around received a new mod/batter module. Kudos to MineLab on great service. I was very happy. Pics show breaks front/back of the old mod separating from battery stem, these happened slowly over time any finally gave way. Pic of the new mod they sent. Now to control my heavy thumb when using it

I actually have an out of warranty equinox that I intentionally cut right where yours broke. Would take a great deal of pressure to break it off, I can't I've ever seen it snap like that.. very strange. Lucky for you it happened just before there was nothing you could do about it. Since minelab moved repair shops from FL to PA, they have been exceptional, before the move they were horrendous! Congrats on the shiny new replacement!

Perhaps sunlight/UV and/or heat over time made the material brittle. Pressure from pressing buttons over time, etc. Or maybe the the orginal poster is just too buff and doesn't know his own strength. LOL
