I have a White's DFX300 which my 15 yr old grandson likes to use at the beach. He is becoming obsessed and wants to hunt for meteorites out west this summer. I have been looking at the reviews for the Bounty Hunter 505 for a xmas gift. Does anyone have some input on this?

Hello JeanS
I'm NEW too. But I can tell you that it takes alot of practice and ideal weather to metal detect. If you are finding good stuff then you wish you had more time. If your are digging trash it's not much fun.
I have a B.H. 202 I am sure the 505 is a perfect unit to start out with. Way better than my 202. Get some coins and put them on the ground "OUTSIDE" and practice with your detector. You might find some other trash I.E. nails bottle caps and pull tabs just to see. OR more like hear the difference on the signals.
If you have tons of time while detecting Dig all signals in the 2-4 inch range.
If you are pressed for time only dig the good signals.
A pin-pointer is a very valueable item too to mak finding those pesky items easy-er to find.
Practice and patience are KEY!!!
