It all started with permission to check the garden...

I think its an old septic system. Someone had to dig down to find the lid and then it took a few days to go back and fill it in and household members threw junk in the hole.

No septic systems in our area. I checked historical data as soon as I dug the concrete slab , assuming it was a let or walkway to an old barn. Checked aerial photos from as far back as 1920. Nothing behind my home except farmland.

I might be looking for a few local SUPER PATIENT , SUPER EXPERIENCED detectorists to help with this.

There is too much soil to cover and time is short. Cold weather is coming and we should have the entire slab exposed by Thursday. Flipping the slab over will be amazing!!! I have 12 messages from various news channels. And one has been parked in front of my house everyday for a week. We are private people and not looking to be on the news.

It was once a brothel ! Well I think you have found one of the many stories that that old house could tell ! I would check the whole yard and look in the walls using technology that doesn’t need to cause damage. If you plan to stay, then I would look into having it cleansed spiritually, in what ever way you believe can do that. Rid it of the negative energies it may still possess. It needs to be cleansed. A few years ago I would have laughed at that idea, but the last couple years have taught me to think differently about that.

If it was a brothel it should have a lot of happy spirits hanging around too. [emoji38]

This is painfully slow. They are allowing me to use my detector while searching for bone fragments. The concrete slab is almost fully exposed and should be lifted
the day after next.

They allowed me to keep the pistol. Which is super weird.

Well they wont be getting any balistics from that revolver..id imagine its pretty useless to them

Last week, my wife told me I was allowed to search the garden section of the yard..such a long story.....

I found an odd key about 6 inches down. Another two inches below that. Solid. So I opened up my plug a little and THOUGHT I had uncovered a wooden box. My wife quickly assessed that this wooden box is a concrete slab.

I continued to open up the hole to a coffin sized concrete slab. A small section broke off and as soon as my pinpointer went in the hole I got a hit. Pulled a bunch of soil out and started finding odd items. The first of many...a small caliber pistol ..a bracelet with initials GRH on it and human bones. It was getting dark so I called local police the next day. 15 mins later. Local police along with detectives, state police and detectives and medical examiners office here....they are allowing me to hunt while figuring out if this was a homicide or a makeshift grave. Back out there tomorrow!!!

HOLY CADAVERS BATMAN!!

That's freaking amazing. What a cool story. I suspect it's not just a "makeshift grave" if it had a small caliber pistol there.

Way to go, man! That's just amazing. YOU are a hero, helping to solve a mystery!

I think GRH stands for James Riddle Hoffa . It's probably just misspelled.

Cheers!

they probably let you keep the gun due to age and deterioration would make it impossible to connect it to anything but the caliber of bullet. forensically it is most likely toast.

maybe an old Iver Jonhson top break revolver with the swept under grips . Owls head made by them..--- early to mid 1900's

man what a story... if we have the find of the year or story of the year-- you gotta be a winner...

Holy moly, what a story! Thanks for posting this! I saw it on Reddit awhile back and I've been wondering what the heck was down there!

That needs to be seriously researched. Look for old newspaper articles about missing persons or unsolved murders.
Do an address search thru old newspapers at the library and remember do the whole area just not your property because your house might just be the burial site.

Kevin.. I just sent a couple of replies to your PM.

I noticed you also have the Rootslayer Nomad digger. Got mine not too long ago and like it alot. I use it in the garden (to divide large perrennials like Hostas etc) and for detecting.

Wow! What a crazy story, I’m eager to hear the conclusion, thanks for sharing with us.
I haven’t been paying much attention to the local news lately with all the politics taking it over but I will watch a bit closer now.

I have no idea why they would let you have that gun. They could have easily pulled prints from the thing.

As someone who has pulled finger prints for evidence, that gun offers nothing. At best maybe a serial number, but it's a ball of steel rust.
