I am really having a hard time with a decision that I made but can still get out of. I have been using the DFX as my primary detector for some time now. I have the Super 12, 10x12 SEF, 6X8 SEF, and 4X6 coils. I also have a SunRay Probe that will work on either detector. So here is the deal. I find myself grabbing the MXT more and more when I go out because I like the simplicity and on the fly adjustments made easy. Since I bought the MXT the DFX pretty much stays at home or in the car. I have found the MXT to be a little deeper and more stable on deeper targets but it has no backlight or tone ID ability. I was recently on another forum and a guy had just received a MXT, SunRay DX-1, D2 coil, and Whites Backpack but he really wanted a DFX. I offered to trade him my DFX for the MXT package and he is willing to do this. I have started 2nd guessing trading because I really like the Spectragraph and display on the DFX and I can dumb it down to be pretty much like a MXT but it might not be quite as stable on deep targets. I am just curious what you guys would do if you were my place. Would you trade the DFX or keep it. I don't beach hunt but we recently bought a camper and plan to make more trips to the beach in the future. This is my dillema and I am really perplexed. PLEASE HELP !!!

I'd keep the DFX, you already have an MXT. The DFX has dual Freq. which also gives it an advantage at some locations including beaches, I also love the DFX display and adjustments. I always found the XLT & DFX to be fun detectors and have great performance.

I agree with CoiltoSoil. Yes the MXT is a nice detector and simplicity is also nice, but there are situations where the DFX will prevail over the MXT. I say go with versatility.

Hello Pescadore,
don't think you need another MXT. But if you're willing to trade your DFX I'd go for a MXT(all)Pro. Backlight, tone ID AND all the other stuff you like on your STD.MXT, except notch filter (which I don't use very often).
Myself I don't feel the need for Tone-ID and backlight, so the MXT IS the machine of choice to me.

Hope this is helpful.

Ive always thought the mxt series was easily the best detector whites ever made.. Even a big shot at whites says same thing..i never cared for the xlt/dfx/v3i ...the mxt in my opinion blows them away.. If it were me id look for the mxtpro or all pro and sell the dfx.. Or trade it in on mxtpro..ive used the dfx alot and always grabbed the mxtpro over it.. Same when i had a v3i. Was nothing in the ground that the mxt could not find.. And easier.. But im not a tweaker...so my opinion may be useless to you ;)

Thanks guys for all the response. I think I am going to keep the DFX as you have suggested after all I have a MXT and I can dumb the DFX down to act like the MXT with maybe a very small loss in depth but same functionality and I cant go the other way with the MXT. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you made up your mind but just to remind you what you have said quite a few times about wishing you still had your 6T..... history tends to repeat itself.

Yes I know and I just had a bad feeling about trading so I am going with my gut and keeping the DFX. It just has so many features that I use regularly that the MXT doesn't have. I really wouldn't go back to the 6T from the DFX because of the lack of coils but the 6T was a good one for sure.

Having had both at the same time and comparing signals the same day on the same spot... I decided to sell my mxt, even if it is simpler than the dfx, I found nothing the mxt could do that the dfx couldn't, and the dfx has better resolution than the mxt, and can be used on the wet sand. I would personally sell the mxt and keep the dfx.

I've got an MXT Pro and an AT-Pro that I'm going to be selling soon as I'm upgrading to an AT-Gold. I used my MXT PRO exclusively last year with the exception of the two times I did water hunts. Don't see myself letting that MXT Pro go anytime soon unless they come up with a better design. Thats the only thing I dont like. Metal box with circuit board inside.? Cmon whites. Get a little bit more artsy with it. :) Maybe just sell your MXT and upgrade to the MXT PRO. Keep your other one.

update

Well, I sold the DFX because I am tired of trying to find the best program when I can just pick up my MXT and go. Tone ID is really the only thing I missed and my regular dealer had a M6 that was lightly used. I went ahead and got it for coinshooting totlots and trashy parks where I really enjoy having the Tone ID. The M6 has the same tracking system as the MXT and the same 7 tones as the MXT Pro. The M6 will probably be used with my small coils, 6x8 SEF and 4x6 DD and I will leave the 10X12 SEF on the MXT for open areas. I just couldn't afford a MXT Pro right now and I had enough money left over to buy me another set of Killer B's and to take my family out to eat. All in all, everything worked out real good for me. I will receive the M6 tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be good.

Hello Pescadore,
had this combo (mxt & m6) some time ago, when the m6 arrived the market, too.
Think it will do it for you, if the m6 is used for coin shooting. For me it doesn't work at all in lack of US-coinage.:?::p With that tone-ID was useless and I missed the mxt threshold. But this is me and the stuff I'm after.
Think you did GOOD and the m6 is a coin shooting beast.
Looking forward to see some of your finds...

Good Luck
