Hunting in 4 kHz?? Advantages?

Doug, I was doing the opposite. Hunting in 4k in hopes of hitting a deep or iffy signals that multi wasn't picking up. This was the case in my test garden. With 10 inch coins 4k was giving good tones and pretty good numbers where as in multi it was jumpy #s and scratchy tone at best. Good luck, Mark
I think you would be better off using multi and doing what Stiffwrisrs said above about using profile. Then you can toggle back and forth with just one button.

Ok Doug call me hard headed and if I'm missing something, please by all means point it out. So we all know in Multi that the EQ high tones and calls rusty bent iron a good target. Likewise 4k calls just about any target good, even mid conductors. So using 4k to verify a high tone, maybe jumpy iffy signal is not IMO not very reliable. Its lies to you like a politician on election day. I have hunted with the Eq 800 since they were released, I know a coin tone when I hear one, its that maybe ,what if, could be signal we all try to pick out. But the only way is to dig it. I see you have been at this a long time so again if I'm missing something ??? Some things I try on an iffy signal, turn 90` 1 If not already in horseshoe I switch, 2 I switch to 2 tone, Also I try F2 and run it up to 8 to see if the signal starts to break up. And I have had all these things sound great, bouncy #s but never drop out of the 30s and still come up with rusty iron. Another thing I noticed was lack of deeper signals. I have actually rolled back to the previous version and have had more success with better and deeper signals. And yes same hunting grounds. Settings I use are Field 2 5 tone rec 4 ib 0. I started using that last Oct. and more than doubled my silver take by years end and had a great start to the new year till the Covid thing happened. So 3.0 does not impress me, but I'm always willing to listen because the one thing I have learned about this hobby is there is sure thing. Happy Holidays to you and your family . Mark

Try those in B2. Imma bet you do better. B2 is superior to every other SMF setting I've found.

My current go to dirt settings are:

Beach 2
50 tones
FE 4
Sens 22-25
Speed 3-5

I love the audio, depth and separation. I do use 4khz to check iffy signals. Sometimes it cleans up an otherwise jumpy signal. Not convinced the 4khz setting has increased my good finds, but I do consider it when deciding to dig the iffy ones.

Glad someone found it useful. For me, the last update to my nox 800 was awful. Had to roll it back.

I use 5 tone but folk who aren't using B2 as their main hunting mode are missing out. Maybe P1 is good for like seeded hunts or new shallow park finds. However, if you're digging in lots, a field or older park, no other SMF mode will do what B2 does.

Thanks for sharing this. Still learning my NOX and I will definitely give this a go the next time I get out.

Thanks Stiffwrists, I’m going to give this a go at Rosie Fields

I would think multi or a higher kHz would be better for lower conductors like relics. 4 kHz would shine more in high conductors like silver.

I tried the new update yesterday in a "hunted out" sled hill.

In 4kHz, the TID numbers were definitely different, and frustrating. Bottle caps coming up as quarters and half dollars, pull tabs as dimes, etc.

I didn't do a ground balance (I was in tracking mode though) so I need to give it another shot

It seems its good for the iffy deep signals as a "check it" kinda thing ...i do find myself checking the deep signals with it and had some good results

It sounds good to have a “check freq” but what it did to the Multi Freq Mode for mine was too much. Seemed like a totally different machine that was out of control.

Are you using Multi or 4khz?

Gonna try this out. Thanks for the tip.

In beach 1 or 2, you can only use multi. Beach doesn't have a single frequency setting.

My buddy and I who hunt together 90% of the time have gone through all the settings. Nothing has been better than the beach settings for dirt. He set his in the beach modes. I followed along in both park and field settings. I couldn't get the tones he was hearing. It was rather stunning.

Interesting. I have yet to come out of park 1

I've used My Nox800 at a CW field that has been hunted for 50+ years. I tried Beach 1, and it's the only mode that would get St. Louis Arsenal bullets at 9-13". This field has also had fill brought in years ago on top of being plowed for a long time. Pretty nice seeing those surface.
