So this weekend I went out to explore some new areas at the permission I call “The Hill”. It’s a small mountain range that spans about 2 or 3 miles. It’s seen lots of activity over the years. We’ve found everything from big coppers to Civil War relics to modern silver coins and everything in between.

Anyway, on Saturday, my buddy Kenny and I were detecting an area that we hadn’t spent much time hunting before. My first good signal turned out to be an awesome vintage sterling baby spoon!

So we continued hunting. Kenny got a cool late 1800s Police button and some old bottles. I got a wheat, some bullets and some other junk. I was thrilled with the spoon, so it was a great day IMO.

So I got up this morning and planned on spending the day with the wife. She was sleepy and could tell that I wanted to go detecting again, so she told me to get lost. I was out the door like a streak of lightning! Back to the same spot.

For the first couple of hours I didn’t find anything other than some old shotgun headstamps and a wheat. I was about to call it a day so I started hunting my way back to my truck, which was about a half mile away. As I was working my way back, I got a loud signal that sounded like a soda can. I decided to dig it anyway, and I’m glad I did! This is what came out of the ground:

It’s a Union box plate. I’ve found lots of Civil War relics over the years.. Condederate buttons, spurs, gun parts, sword parts, all sorts of bullets, you name it. BUT, for whatever reason, a plate of any kind has always eluded me. Until now! Can you tell I’m stoked?

So I hunted that area for about another half hour and then continued working my way back to the truck. Got another shallow signal that turned out to be a coin spill!

What a great weekend of detecting! I recorded live digs of everything which should make for a pretty good video. I’ll get it edited and uploaded sometime this week.

Thanks David!

Thanks Diga! Yeah, no doubt!
You flat out covered the whole spectrum of awesomeness. I would have been super happy with the spoon, but to go on to a Union plate and round it all out with a silver coin spill! That's a big WOW! Congrats, and well done.:waytogo:
Thank you hoser. Days like that don't come along often for me. Sure was fun!
Holy crap is right!!! Amazing 🤩
Thanks HG!
That is super. I cannot believe it, but it is true. Every CW relic hunter's dream. Heck every detectorists dream. Couldn't happen to a better guy!:bouncy:I am so happy for you!!!!!!
Thank you John! Much appreciated!
Very nice! It’s looks in good shape. That’s what it’s all about. The WOW feeling!
Thanks man! It's banged up a little, but still in decent shape for being in the ground 160 years.
Cool finding Sterling silverware! I like the walking half! Congrats!

Also I like the purple medicine.
Thanks metaladdict!

Thanks Boones! It was a blast. Sure wish all hunts could be that much fun!
What a great story and finds. Thank the wife! Sounds to me like you'll be going back there.

Mark in Michigan
Thanks Mark! Yessir, If I didn't have to work, I'd be back out there right now. Can't wait til the weekend!
Great finds! I do think that's a jelly spoon though and not a baby spoon. Unless the baby had a huge mouth.

Steve
Thanks Steve! You know, IDXmonster and I were talking about that yesterday. I found a few like it online and they call it a baby spoon, but I agree with you. The bowl looks awful big for a baby. It would have to be one big mouthed kid!
WTG on a fantastic find!
Thanks Rebel!
What a haul!! Congratulations!
Thanks 60streeter!
Wow, what amazing finds!! A little something for everyone 😁keep up the good work.
Thanks Frank!

I appreciate all the comments everyone.

:dingding: You had me at the spoon... but wow on that piece of history! (Some other amazing things sound like a big soda can ;))
