Ever get down? Think of quitting?

Yeah I have quite of few times metal detection and others things too. With all of my problems its hard, but I still keep going. I just started to get back into metal detecting.

Think of quitting? No because I have to much fun.

Life gets  so take one day at a time and get out Metal Detect to relive the stress of life. :D

im just starting so no, I just hate the moon crater diggers at my parks :(

Scuba you really should get a GoPro and film your hunts! Nothing giving away your sites but I think they would be AWESOME! Especially for those of us who are too chicken to do that style of detecting.

I Agree!!!

Due to car problems lately I have been limited to hunting one park that I have been hunting for over thirty years. I used to find a lot of coins including silver but finding anything anymore has been a challenge. I think I only found one silver coin last year and that was a Rosy in December. The last time I hunted the park I didn't find one coin. I still love detecting and with the forecast for rain I decided to give it one more try before it rained. I took my Garrett 2500 and ended up with the best day that I have had for some time. I know it wouldn't be much to most of you but it was for me. I found a '44D Wheat Cent but I find them a lot. My best finds were a '43S Mercury and a Sterling Silver spoon.(Marked Sterling) The funny thing was I found the Mercury where I have hunted a hundred times before. I guess the damp ground from recent rains helped. It was in a very trashy area and I wouldn't have even hunted there but I was taking some trash to the only waste container around. It's times like this that keep me going.

Never!

After 40+ years the one thing I've learned is when you least expect it something amazing will emerge. Sometimes you can go a long time before it happens, but it will happen.

Plus I just enjoy detecting whether I find anything or not. Of course a good find is great, but just icing on the cake for me.

Detecting to me is like fishing or hunting to others.

Detecting isn't FINDING. Just like fishing isn't CATCHING and hunting isn't BAGGING.

Detecting is the peace, quiet, relaxation and exercise you get while hoping you will find something unique and valuable.

It is a hobby that might and might not ever pay off but that is all it is a hobby to enjoy.

Anybody have a radio controlled airplane hobby or a shooting hobby? Do they ever pay you back? No. You sink money into those without the chance to ever see a dime come out of them.

If you are into detecting because you are going to strike it rich some day, you are probably in the wrong hobby.

Do I get lucky? Sure. I have a lot of time to put into the hobby and it brings me peace. So the more I do it the more I learn my detectors and the rewards are obvious. Will I ever find a sunk Spanish galleon full of gold? No. I find my treasures one ring at a time and sometimes two.

I used to live off my finds when my wife died and I closed my computer shop. I spent day after day searching for elusive gold. Nobody was diving back then and if I didn't find 6 gold rings a day I was disappointed. Now if I find a couple a day I am happy as a lark. However I am retired and I can still put a lot of time and effort into searching. And I really enjoy the hunt.

Getting discouraged is not an option and shouldn't be for anyone. I would say if you do get discouraged, look for a hobby that will always bring you happiness when you do it. Unless you have a 20 thousand dollar radio controlled airplane and you are watching it crash dive.

Scuba tells it straight out true! It's a hobby for fun. Enjoy what you can, if you don't enjoy it don't do it. Find something new.
BRAVO SCUBA!!

Well said Scuba. I could not agree more.
