Equinox RANT

All I can say is that I found silver coins here in North Texas in super hard hunted parks, where veteran detectorist friends and general hunters have not hunted in a very long time. The Equinox has a speciality to it, for the experienced metal detecting hobbies. Separation within serious trash, beating out some danged good high end detector units.

You have to be here in my local parks to appreciate finding not only one surprise, missed silver(or simple clad mixed with trash which was missed before), but THREE good silvers in a week, 2 of them in 2 consecutive days!

I dont give myself enough credit maybe. I ran a V3i religiously since 2010, tweaked the recovery delay, called recovery speed on the NOX, and became a very proficient FBS user, finding much more deep silver in a short time with FBS after the V3i. Then, the Equinox came along, popping 2 silvers within seemingly barren, over hunted trashy spots, IN TWO DAYS, three silvers in a big-week, a
Barber dime where I and other very good hunt buddies with my Etracs and Explorers, had good success, yet all mostly moved on and generally given up there for a lengthy period of months.

I agree, semi green to moderate new detectorist starting out would miss them, so the Nox ain't magic, yet the NOX was startling after the success I had in that short period. Luck in a day is one thing. Two days, another. Three silvers in a long week in pounded local parks? That's unreal IMO. Texas friends reading this know the spots I had these finds.

Good, bad or indifferent I never really understood why some insist their machine (and this is not limited to the Equinox by the way) is the absolute best thing since the last best thing.
Why does it matter so much that people end up getting angry and frustrated and resort to insults??

I have the 800, the Impact and the AT Pro, they're all capable machines in their own way but I'd never be so presumptuous as to insist one was the best thing ever and force it down people's throats.

It just doesn't matter (to me anyway) and besides it being a waste of time you will just stress yourself out, and... stress will kill you...

Get out there, swing whatever machine you have, think happy thoughts and find something interesting.

Some people can't afford a damn bounty hunter and here we are spending big bucks chasing the rainbow and getting all upset because not everyone agrees with you...

There are so many other important things in life...

My guess is that while you were learning a new machine that you had the tendency to dig iffy targets that others might not have dug writing them off as junk. I bought a MX Sport and took it to a school that I had pounded with 2 other machines and had dug loads of wheat cents. Guess what, 1st time out I dug a silver dime that I had had missed with the other two. Does that mean that the MX Sport makes all other machines obsolete ? I don't think so. Too many other factors to consider to give the machine all the credit. Most videos that I have seen on the Nox have shown that the VDI is very sketchy at best so stands to reason that someone might dig more masked targets as well as more junk.

I have both an AT Pro and a Nox 600. I find stuff with both machines. No machine is perfect. I am not knocking either of my machines and I enjoy my new hobby. To each his own !!!
Bubbaron NOX 600, AT PRO, AT CARROT PIN POINTER

People got caught up a bit too much in Minelab's advertising hype, buying into the Nox being something completely new, when actually it is just the latest wrinkle on ML's multi-frequency technology, which has been around for some time. That said, while the Nox won't replace my Etrac (which has much better ID and depth info) it complements the Etrac nicely, with better separation and unmasking in iron-filled sites. Now, if I had a Multi Kruzer, I might be saying the same thing about it--I don't know...

One thing appears clear: with its modern features (fast, light, bright screen, waterproof, wireless), the Nox will make a splash in the mid-price market, maybe even cutting into the sales of the higher-priced Deus.

:dingding: Great post......I remember when the Vision/V3 came out and don't believe there was as much smoke being blown about it like the Nox...we all have our favorites...learning to use it and the rewards is the best part....

The whole post is about the user knowing his machine, no matter what machine it is.

Just because I dig something great with my CZ-21, does not mean it's another CZ-21 success story. It does mean I have another success story.

That is the bottom line.

My Equinox has refused to get over a silver coin lately. I am positive it is the machines fault.

Heck, I thought Jesus was coming back for his Jews and Equinox users and to heck with the rest of y'all. Lol. On a more serious note my Nox should be in Friday. The only downside to that is I won't have time to use it this weekend because I'm going to the NRA show. Maybe I can hit a park on the way home? Dang, just not enough hours in a weekend.

I cancelled my 800 order and bought the 600 and some bt headphones off amazon for $60. I hunt with 0 disc, listen to everything and prefer as many tones as I can get. I think 50 tones will be right up my alley. I decided i didn't need all the mumbo jumbo of the 800.

Okay that makes sense !!! Hope you get a chance to try it out on your trip.

I almost pulled the trigger on that etrac of yours several times. I used to have an explorer. Me and slow swinging detectors just don't jibe. I agree with you completely about it being the swinger and not the swingee. I've smoked matinv3i lots of times. Him swinging fbs me swinging mxt. But there are times when je whoopped me like a red headed step child.
If anyone else wants to PM me with negative comments, I will happily add you to a growing ignore list. Not a problem on my end.

My E-Trac is gone. I know someone will have a killer machine. Nobody could get an E-Trac with even alone for under 625.00 off Fee-Bay. Two extra coils and the Grey Ghost, and everything the detector came with was a good deal.

A lot of the time the real answer is whoever gets their coil over the target first and decides to dig wins.

It was an awesome deal. I'm still kicking myself for not buying it. We need an emoji of someone kicking themselves in the ass. Kind of like the @ but a person. Lol

Sorry, but i disagree.
A bit of luck in getting your coil over a good target, user skill level to know how to interpret what a detector is telling you, etc yes this counts.
But not all machines are equal, and some by a big margin !

Agreed 100 percent, i have owned almost everything, all machines are not even close to equal. I agree also somewhat with Scuba, i know a someone that with over 40 years with many many machines , could probably take a $150 machine and take me to the cleaners.

So ultimately yes and no Scuba.

But muh youtube and post counts!?!?!?!?!?!

:laughing::laughing:

In over 60 years of living, I've only seen one other time where so many bought into such a load.....

and I'm glad those 8 years are over
