Of the following, which one would be best V3i coil for thin and tiny medieval silver hammered coins in Europe? These are about 2 to 3 cm wide, and very thin. Often they are in ancient fields that have a lot of small iron trash too. I have found that only the high frequencies detect them well, such as the 22 kHz range of the V3i.

So far my experience has shown them to be almost invisible in the 10" DD that comes standard with the V3i.

My choices are:

8" x 6" SEF
6" DD
4.5" x 7" Elliptical

Your thoughts?

the 10x12 sef might surprise you as to how sensitive it is and gets better ground coverage.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have that same 10x12 SEF coil. It is sensitive, but these tiny slivers of silver are still very hard to detect with it. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the smaller coils on tiny, low conductive objects with the V3i.

The best coil for finding those is MY coil!!!
Actually, when I visited Karel in the Czech Republic last year, we hunted farm fields.
I used my AT PRO with the stock coil and I found one of those tiny thin silver hammered coins with it.:D
This is smaller than the Trime I found last year.

I love finding them too! But my friends with smaller coils find so many more than I do. So I know I want a coil under 8" - but there are so many options!

I also think the smaller coil will help me finmd more ellusive AE4 Roman bronzes when they are hidden next to iron square nails and other ancient trash.

I found these with my stock 10" DD - but I know I am missing a bunch!
