That is too funny! I have built an 8'x8'x8' playhouse for my kiddos by myself. I'm strong but using one arm to hold that MD for awhile doesn't sound easy. "I hope I'm tough enough"

Bart,
Are you the guy on Garrett's newsletter? Congrats on making the cover. I saw a clip of the video and didn't know which MD model you were swinging.
Yeah that was me. Fun times!
Hey Mama,
Glad you finally got your machine. We are starting at about the same point, although you have had a detector before. I am working my way through this the same way you are. I have dug mid and high tones and found everything from coins to whole cans...not sure what to think. Have tried switching from STD to PRO mode on the same great sounding target, and still find nothing. I will figure it out and so will you. I subscribed to this thread so keep posting anything you learn and I will try to do the same. It's starting to freeze here and we had some snow this week, but this weekend looks like it should be great to hunt. Hopefully, I find that light bulb over my head with this machine doing it. You know what they say...at least a hundred hours before you know it. I may try to keep a log of VDI, tones, and depth, and see if that helps me figure it out. Won't get to hunt much, what with all the writing, but SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE....right? Best of luck and HH!
Heavier definitely. Amazing machine. Picked up a few good spots marked them them with golf tees until Lesche comes. Easy to assemble but those prongs are hard to see when you connect to control box. Make sure you don't force those in. Did a test with my platinum engagement ring and rang in around 39 or 40 but no chirp. Did a blank must have been the diamond?
When I hear the bell tone does that mean its definitely good? I'm going to try and dig tomorrow if my Lesche is here and warms up. I understand the numbers randomly change when iron is near, almost bonkers flipping numbers. What does the bell mean?

I am i=right outside of Pittsburgh. The weather turned great here today, and I was out after work for about 3 1/2 hours. I found $1.36 in clad. Also found some junk. I seem to be digging more coins and less trash, but that is by only digging high tones. Still finding large trash, but I am really afraid that I am passing stuff up that is high tone mixed with weird signals. And, so far, where I have hunted, it is not conducive to digging really deep, because I hit stone or roots. But I also think that the coin should stop sinking at that point, so it should be within range. Not sure....what do you folks think?
Platinum rings up lower than gold. Gold is the pull tab range. So depending on your discrimination and your setting you may not hear a tone at all. For instance if you're in coin mode, it may be too low on the ID to make a tone. Make sure it's in all metal and try it. You'll hear a tone.
There are no definites. I will tell you this. In standard mode, the tone you hear is the 'best" tone the machine thinks is below the ground. If you are in PRO mode you will hear all sorts of tones at times and it will do what they call, a "roll over" where the signal is in the 70+ range and goes to the opposite extreme say below 40's. In most cases that is because the coil is picking up multiple targets within your coils diameter or your swing. The issue with this is that most people skip these targets, but as of lately I have been finding deeper coins masked by other objects closer to the surface. So make sure you pay attention to the tones and in a beginners case it is OKAY to look at the screen. I still do myself.
Pinpointing is not the easiest to learn with the large DD coil that is standard on the AT Pro. It can be off a bit, and remember the AT Pro is a sensitive machine. Depending on your target ID you may be picking up anything from a rusty nail that is blended in the soil well. Some rusty nails CAN and DO ring high on the ID depending on their size and how close to the surface they are. Also make sure you have done a proper ground balance! This helps with falsing.
There is a thread somewhere on here with a list of targets and their VDI numbers.
