AT Pro Newbies... Talk to me

I have 2 days more to wait on the atpro i ordered. I have a good feeling about this detector and have watched just about every video on youtube about this unit. Im new to this hobby, and cant wait for the adventures and the endless possible treasures out there. also ordered the pro pointer.:D

I have the A T Pro and GPP and they are a great combination, did an old museum today with sean prodanas and the small coil was having trouble with so many nails, switched to the large coil and discriminated out the iron and lower end and it just gushed out things, from an old crotal bell, shoe buckle, coin spill and we combined to get some old coins around an old well, the at pro is a great machine for a beginner and an experienced detector, the STD and PRO modes are so different from each other, its like holding a stethescope to the ground and hearing the heartbeat of the finds.

It finds closely if you dont find a clump of nails in the same hole....you are going to love it, remember though you get out what you put in

Ive been busy with home renovations so I've been quiet lately. I have to tell you the Pro saved me a lot of cash and time when I needed to locate pipes. Today was especially the best because the 5x8 located a underground electrical pipe when we took out our driveway lamp post. That pipe was down deep. Not to mention we just a our roof removed and a new one put one. There was a lot of nails embedded in the grass from the past two weeks that the roofers missed with their contractor magnet rake. The Raven and Lesche didn't let me down also!

I've never owned or tried an Ace250, do you have the 5x8 coil? It works great with trashy areas. Maybe the Pro is a waterproof souped up version of the 250?

The Pro runs at a higher frequency, is waaaayyy faster recovery and has infinitely better target separation. There's really no comparison between the two.

I just ordered my second AT Pro from Bart on Saturday.

Got to have a backup machine and after 5 gold rings and 2 gold pendants my wife thinks she might want to learn what her idiot husband is doing.

Pro on way

Just purchased the at pro with single dd coil yesterday. Can wait to use it. Been swinging an f2 and although i love it, it will take a back seat for a bit

You've got to love the Raven.. I would never have thought a shovel could be worth what they sell for..
I now have to say it's worth every penny.. Just as the Pro pin pointer saves you time, the raven will save you as much time or more.. Not nearly as much time on your knees.. No doubt you will increase the number of targets recovered at the end of the day..

Thanks! I got it from aafes.com. The only drawback is its ordered direct from the factory and Garrett is quoting six weeks for shipments.

6 weeks! Good gawd it could be snowing here by then!

Bart @ big boys hobbies has them in stock.

Just got my New ATPro yesterday. I am sooo happy to start digging up my yard. But i have to wait :(. Still waiting for my sons detector. His is a birthday gift. At least i can read the owners manual for a while.

Congrats, you'll never regret your purchase..
You can also download the manual in a PDF file and carry it on a smart phone in the field with you, or read it on your PC....

Tomorrow I finally get to give my son his new Ace 250,lesche tool, and treasure pouch for his birthday. Plus the cool accessories that came with the ace. So that means i can finally dig mine out and start a hunt for buried trash in my yard. For weeks ive been reading the book that came with my Atpro, and watching the you tube videos. Let you know how it goes.

Have patience with it and take your time. Once you get to know it you will love the machine. It's an amazing machine and I have no complaints and neither will you. Also have a blast getting out there with your son. Hope you guys get lucky and enjoy the time spent together. You will love th Garrett products and the Lesche is great. Did you get the PinPointer?

And on another note... I had an amazing night once again with my AT. I will be uploading pics and making a thread shortly. I had a high 90's on he VDI and it was deep (9"-10") at a private home. Took two seperate hour shifts to finally get to it. The ground was like concrete. It was worth it... And it wasn't trash... There is a teaser for you. Lol

Learn in pro mode

Like Sonnydiggs said, earn in pro mode. Once target it retrieved, swing over it again. Fill the hole and swing again. GB every so often if the ground cover changes. You will lose depth once you turn disc up so play with that. Good luck

I will be ordering mine next week. But, I have to go on vaca. It'll have to wait. At least I will have something to look forward to when I get home. Can't wait to swing it in the water!

The .pdf manual is exactly like the manual the AT pro comes with. I put mine on my ereader to read whenever I want while reading any other books. Very convenient!

I found the exact opposite..if you swing and think "yes its another penny!" then scan it with the pro zero mode...and listen carefully, then dig it up, if your right and it is a penny then you just got a quick lesson in knowing what it sounds like with the other stuff in that area....its hard to replicate the same sounds when you dig something up and rebury it, the ground condition can change the numbers again and again.

Of course a test garden is always good exopecially when i have the ability to leave things there for a while to have the ground settle around them

Yes, it does change.
Ive also noticed it change once I open the hole. The pro will pause on me and take a sec or two to read the open hole. That is why I swing it twice. Once while open (after target is retrieved) and after I fill the hole.

Well today was a fun day teaching and learning at the same time. My son and i put our detectors together, and went out into the back yard. We dont have a large back yard but it was still fun. I found 2 clad pennies and we both found some nails. We definately need 2 Garrett Pro Pointers though. He stayed interested for hours. We then ate lunch and went down to the schools to hit the play grounds. I have the ATPro and was wondering if power lines would make the readings jump all over the place. It got so bad we couldn't detect in the fields. We ended up in play areas and found 1.71 in clad, and a ring. much better. I am hooked.:D I am happy with the lesche digger tools, pro pointer, and both detectors. I think the research payed off for my some and i.
