AT Pro Newbies... Talk to me

Thanks for describing the sounds and their sequence! That helps me out. do you happen to remember the VDI's too? Sometimes I think I am ignoring good signals because of the proximity of iron grunts next to them. Apparently, that's a big mistake.

As of late, I've started digging all substantial iron signals. Turned up a lot of farm tools. No old coins yet (except for a 1939 wheat), but I havn't been hunting much beyond my backyard which was a farm pre-1950.

Silver dimes VDI at 81-83 in my area dirt. Its a very clear sound thats just a little different than a clad dime that still comes in at 81.

Copper pennies and clad dimes sound exactly the same to me, but that 90% silver is the sweetest sound a AT Pro makes!

Sold on the pro

Hello to the pro nation.
My name is Richard from central Tx. About an hour from the beach and 10 min. From rivers ussed by Tubers. I have a small bounty hunter that has a few finds under its belt
including my friends prescription glass from the river.

The pro is deffinatly the new md for me and as soon as the funds are right ..oh yes there will be an order placed. Like most of us I have been searching the web looking for good and bad reviews. On the pro and now I have no doubt that I am sold.

Thanks to everyone for their experince HH

Yep, the PRO is a great machine. With the 5X8 coil it tears those trashy parks up! I agree that copper pennies and clad dimes sound identical. The extra little ring in those silvers is definitely audible. The silver dimes almost always bump up to the 83, but today I had a 1891 seated dime sounding jumpy and showing 78-81. When I flipped the plug back it was sitting kind of on edge. I could still hear that silver tone though. The target separation on these is awesome, especially with the little coil. After lots of hours with it and lots of pinpointing I can usually center the hole on the coin even if there is iron/trash in the hole with it. Use the iron audio in those situations and you can hear the iron coming! What method of pinpointing do you guys use? Tip of the coil, heel of the coil, or sweet spot? I find different targets pinpoint better with different methods and have been experimenting a lot lately.

Congrats on your first Barber Dime... Nice. Yes I think the AT Pro can be a learning machine,,,which means practice, practice, and digging digging. I can't wait to try Iron On Audio in trashy areas to see it it improves my hits. Just my opinion. That barber is a keeper!

New sound last night worth noting. I got a clear iron grunt followed by a high tone ping. Both sounds were clear not the squelchy bottle cap sound.

So I went to the other side of the target and got the ping followed by the grunt. Hmmm

Dug it and got a big rusted wiring staple and my first Barber dime!

Nothing earthshattering but I thought it was rare to have the two distinct sounds so close but not bleeding over each other.

Very impressive machine we have here!! :D

Welcome! You will love it! Keep us posted when you get it, we are happy to help if you need anything.

Pinpointing

Oldsjunkie,
I pinpoint in an X type of way. Depending on the where the target is situated and what obstructions nearby, tip, heel or side.

I use the tip.

I am getting the 5x8 coil shortly and am looking forward to tring it as well!

What I'm amazed by with the AT Pro is how hard it hits tiny pieces of gold. :wow:

I showed a .5 gram 10k ring I found to my coin guy and he couldn't believe my machine was able to clearly light it up from 6-8 inches away. Underwater.

Howdy, got my AT pro last friday and since then I have found about 100 clad to include my 1st IH a 1903, 2 wheaties and tonight a gold 14k chain that is is thin but it had a nice 4gm 10k pendant and a 2gm 12g plated cross, picked up with solid 63 at 3 inches. I covered this area 3 separate times with my cibola and with the AT i scored, I love this machine and anyone who thinks it is complex just doesnt give it credit. I love it and cant wait to MD everyday after work. I want to find 2k BTW I am at 1964 coins since feb 1st.

the cibola is a great machine but the AT pro is light years ahead in my opinion. at the July 4th (6 month anniversary of my md career) I am going make a giant post with pics.

Just wondering what the following coins ring up on the VDI:
Indian Head
V Nickels
War Nickels

My wife and I both have ace 250's and we share a pro pointer. I put in an order today for a new AT Pro. I think I got a good deal at $559.00 shipped. I can't wait till it arrives!

I am not overly thrilled with my AT Pro. I liked my ACE 250 a lot better and I think I will go back to it. The AT Pro goes deeper but thats all I can say for it. Just my opinion. Fry

I've never owned or tried an Ace250, do you have the 5x8 coil? It works great with trashy areas. Maybe the Pro is a waterproof souped up version of the 250?
