Any advice on hunting an old property?

If it's a historic site like that, chances are it's already been hunted more than once. Usually the high tones are gone, and the lower conductors are left. They're still goodies. I always concentrate on the front yard, that's where most of the activity was. I commonly dig Indian cents near the road, folks and kids would sit and watch the travelers pass on by.

I'm pretty sure this actually is the case. Thinking about it, my grandmother would have given permission if the person was friendly, like 100%. I've spent 15+ hours on the property, and found very little. The oldest thing I've found was a 1890 Indian head penny, and considering how old the property is and how much metal is everywhere..idk. Is it possible the older stuff is just really deep? maybe the tracker IV just can't pick up on it? I still have to do the field and the front yard, but I think i'm gonna call it quits soon.

It just takes patience, I hunted for 7 years before I found my first IHC. I've hunted some large fields for nearly 10 years, finds get few and far between. Mainly enjoy and have fun in the hunt, the finds will come and accumulate to build a nice collection. HH Jerry

Be patient, and if you can, dig up EVERYTHING you find...it will be frustrating, but every nail and piece of foil you dig is one less that's there. If you have friends (or people here) who are close by, invite them to join you....

What I'd do is pick one area, mark it off with rope or spray paint or even a garden hose and focus on that...dig it all...and then move to the next spot

Yea I guess it won’t be too bad once my pin pointer gets here. But digging hole after hole and having to sift through each mountain of dirt starts to suck after a while lol. Even if someone was here, they had to have missed some stuff

You have to remember that these coins we are looking for were big money back in the day. People did not always carry change around everyday in their pockets. Unless there was a lot of different people coming to the property then your family may have been very careful with their money and put it away.

The front yard area may be the best area. Check between the front door and the mail box. Also years ago people use to leave change in the mail box to pay for postage so check around the box.
