1 Gold ring, 3 Seated Dimes, 1 Seated Half Dime, 1 Barber dime, 51 IH's, 5 shielded nickels and two 2 Cent Coppers! UPDATE: 7/22/2012

Haven't hunted down there at my spot in a while. Last few trips no coins and just some flat buttons. A last minute change of plans brought me back down there this morning. I was there for only about an hour total and actually left to work on my dads 63 Impala.

In that hour I pulled some more buttons and another great little silver. A 1890 seated dime. Clear 80 on my At-Pro and still in the same area I've found all the previous coins. Don't know how I missed the clear and loud dime signal before. It's in pretty good shape. No mint mark on it.

It is the third seated dime and the fourth seated coin in general for both me and this location. I did find my one and only seated half dime here as well.

I thought for sure since I haven't been even getting many signals at all including even iron that this place gave up everything it was going to. Apparently not.

Awesome! I see you didn't clean this latest find more than rinsing it off, it appears, probably a good habit so as not to inadvertently damage a valuable coin. Looking forward to future news of your honey hole. That must have been one rich, and very careless farmer. lol. Must be something more to that field than that.

I usually clean any coins I don't plan on ever selling to begin with and that are also not any key dates. I really liked the patina on this one.

The home that was near here was nothing special at any point. Just a farm. The knocked the home and buildings down last year and soon will be breaking ground for condos. I am detecting in a patch of woods right next to where the home once was. Really just an old field I believe at one point. And most of the coins have been right in the middle. Same with the buttons but no other relics really here at all.

Sorry to dig-up this old thread, but these finds are now subject to debate since it's been recently discovered that the OP was planting them, and verifiable proof has been found. A few us within the group we belong too had questioned some of these "amazing" finds recently, and their discoveries were very fishy. Now, after a group hunt at this so-called "honey hole" and a member finding a cardboard coin holder that had been discarded in the woods with the exact date and type of a coin that was supposedly "found", along with other members finding shallow coins in very loose dirt that looked recently dropped (ie Wheats that were cleaned), that anything within this thread I highly doubt was ever "found" at this location. Very disappointed that my friend here was caught doing this. He's a good guy, but the inconsistencies, the videos that show a clump of dirt being balanced on the finds, and how a little water always seems to wash it perfectly clean with no effort, along with the other members concerns at that location recently and the discovery of the coin holder, I have to make light of this because these actions tarnish the hobby. It's not hunting if you know where you just buried the coin. If you're seeking praise from your peers, then do so with a little honor and integrity. Don't do things like this and then get all angry and start blocking everyone before the truth is made public. Defend your actions, and or apologize for doing this and Man-up to it. I'll be the first to accept it and have ya come hunt with me any day of the week, but sticking to the story to save face wont save your honor when those of us within the FB Group now know what really happened.

This thread should be closed or moved to the Non-fiction forum.

Yeah I'm a bit puzzled by it myself why he would do this. If it was to gain friends or impress us that wasn't necessary,Jon alot of people on the FB group think you're an ok Guy, you just did something stupid that we would all like an explaination for. I thought you had unbelievable luck but I would never accuse anyone of doing this without proof, but I guess we have that proof now. Jon this can be a fun hobby & you can make some great friends doing it there's no need to do what you did, surely you can't really gain any satisfaction from posting false claims of your finds. As others have said your welcome back to the FB group, just come back & give us an explaination

I agree bro. You're a good guy and cool to hunt with. Come back, explain, and put it behind ya. It's not like we're in highschool and care so much that anyone will carry it like a grudge. There's no reason to. Whatever the reasons, hey, you had them and that's that. I know it's not tough to admit when you've done something wrong, and it's hard to swallow a little pride, but it's not the end of the world. Anyway, just my .02 on it.

I agree Ron and Metalminer.

Jon, if you read this, I hope you come back to us again. I enjoyed sharing the hobby with you and always had fun hunting.

Hope we can hit the dirt again soon. Let me know.

i agree, i've hunted with Jon a few times and was probably the first person off the site ta meet up with him and give some pointers and hunt with....then i sold him my AT pro. not sure what the reasoning is behind these actions but as far as i'm concerned its all water under the bridge now. Jon you know my number if ya wanna get out sometime

Ah ha! I knew it when he found a 2nd Morgan after only detecting 6 months, I even hinted at it when I read his thread.

After reading all this & the evidence proving this guy did not find these coins, I decided to take another look , this time a real close look, at the pictures of his "finds" or should I say "plants" posted here on this thread. I noticed something interesting. Anyone, with any experience detecting knows that when you dig up old silver dirt is usually caked onto the coin. That is why we often tell people "don't rub the coin!" Take another good look at his seated silver "finds" on this thread. Two of them in particular look like he held the coin in his hand and tossed loose dirt on it with his other hand. The dirt is not "caked" on the coin like it normally would be. It looks "sprinkled" on the coin and his hand. It's hard to explain what I mean, but if you look at the pictures again, I think you'll understand what I'm trying to say. It's totally staged. He didn't find these coins in the ground. He found them on ebay. He should sell his detector. He doesn't need a detector to find more coins. He needs more money in his paypal account!

Ironically his eBay feedback is from a lot of people that sold him coins that magically are the same ones he said he found. Very disgusted right now.

I'm not saying he didn't plant these coins but if you look at the feedback in ebay they are all are left after the last post with pictures in this thread. His last picture was from 7-23 and the first ebay coin purchase had feedback left on 8-3. So, the ebay feedback doesn't prove anything unless you are talking about different finds than the ones posted here.

I've purchased items on ebay before and waited weeks and even months for seller to post feedback. I've even had to ask them to post it as soon as possible and gotten the excuses "haven't had time" or "I'm sorry I completely forgot". Just basing purchase dates and feedback dates doesn't prove or disprove that the ones he purchased could very well be the ones he planted

Keep researching and you will. Its all about location, luck and keeping at it.

I am surprised no one else commented on the seated silvers... Oh well lol. Made my night anyway.

Thanks man...

Anyway this can be moved to the "eye popping" section or is it better suited here? Shame the thread isnt spotlighted anymore. I am still finding goodies lol.

Yes it does seem that all of the silvers in here are "sprinkled" and it sure seems to me he's in it for the attention and glory with the above comments. Some people just "need" all of the attention.

I looked and all these auctions weren't even complete before 7-23. But, I now realize that Ron was talking about different coins than in this thread. I does appear that he was planting coins on a recent group hunt to make himself look good to his friends.

Thanks for all the time & effort you have taken to include us in your dream hunts.
One thing to think on - after several decades of detecting I still occasionally go back to sites I have "cleaned out" and still find goodies. Like a walking half right in the middle of the lawn !
So further on down the line you will become more proficient with the machine and go back for more.
Thanks for your posts, steve in so az

Shame

What a shame,
I guess it was too good to be true.
I wonder if AF Mike believes that I found a crusty old 1904 Indian this morning without him?
