I went to a large grocery chain, will not name them but they want to become nations largest. Anyway on way out i see a handfull of change in reject slot in coinstar machine. Prob 25 coins. I scooped them and immediately a young female clerk come over and said they belong to the store. I said they are rejected and left by previous owner but she said they still belong to the store and she held out her hand . A second clerk said same thing. So i handed them to her and she took them into the cashier/office room and came back out. Said her boss said yes store property on agreement. They were not nasty and were courteous, although i believe wrong. The coins were mainly foriegn to me, canadians, a peso, some were pennies with crud. Nothing looked silver right off. Maybe some euros. Nothing gave me an ah ha or heartburn moment. I did not want to cause a scene, risk my job nor reputation.
Took me off gaurd. This was a lot of coins than normally see left.
Sooooo for future trips i have a sandwich bag of awful, holey, eat up corroded zinc that the US Mint would prob throw in garbage. I will deposit the once useless now valuable coins in the machine, and retreive them from the reject along with anything left in the slot beforehand. No fuss to be made. And see what i have when i get home.
Had there been a handfull of silver, well we might have had a argument but i know there are cameras too and is it worth a scene or charge if it is even possible like a theft or disorderly or get banned from store? Doubt it would happen, but i think my stealth idea would be best. And yes i do roll up the bad zincs in the middle of rolls going back to mint. We paid for them.
Anyone had this happen?
