Went on a South Beach hunt yesterday. It may be the worst hunt I have had there this year. Conditions were far from ideal with the surf being 1-2’. I would say it was closer to 2 feet for most of the hunt as I was spanked, slapped, and pummeled throughout the majority of the 4-hour hunt. I would’ve preferred to hunt today but I have a football game that I need to cover tonight. However, this hunt was a test for my hand which had undergone trigger finger surgery for my ring and middle finger on September 22nd.

Results: The hunt had very few targets which may or may not have been a good thing. I had some pain centering the scoop. It was really difficult with the surf hitting me and moving me back. However, I had a lot more pain getting up deep targets. It was tolerable for me, but it was still painful. I am working hard on my physical self-therapy as I refuse to go do it when I know I can do it on my own and have my high school’s athletic trainer to guide me. My middle finger is in a constant bend, and I need to place it on a table or wall and press it straight with my other hand. Initially it hurts but it needs to be done along with some other stretches. The surgery/procedure was more than I expected – not painful but more than I expected. I will not be doing the surgery on my right (dominant) hand. My doctor who’s one of the top 3 hand specialists in SouthFla doesn’t think I really need it as long its not a problem. The middle finger in that hand does not lock with normal movement – only when I cause it to lock. The juice just isn’t worth the squeeze for that hand to me. I hope to be posting something that fits soon!

Wait ! You're covering a football game ? So does the finger hurt more when you have it closed around the scoop or when you straighten it out ? Just curious. Way to play through the pain though, so to speak I hope it continues to improve and all that.

Administrators have to cover athletic events at the high school level. What hurt the most was the pressure of lifting the scoop out of the hole since I use my left hand. Thanks

Trigger finger finger ain’t no joke, feel for you.

I suffered from it about 10 years ago and I was lucky that it went away on its own. I think I had 5 or 6 bouts with it.

I hope you recover quickly and good luck.

Been thinking about that surgery myself. You’re right. It dose look a lot more than I was thinking !! Maybe I’ll just think on it a while longer. ( pretty convincing picture !)

That is way cool Felix! I love the idea.
Thanks! It came after the one I did on my right wrist (a year after my 1st of 3 Camino de Santiago's) so I needed a balance.

Fun, I had surgery on my pinky finger inside tendon... to reattach it after cutting clean through the tendon that sucked back into my hand. Keep up with stretching your finger! mine made it to mostly straight! only a hair of a bend to mine now! A guy i knew had the same surgery as me....he did not do therapy....his finger is forever hooked.

My trigger finger comes and goes. Kind of funny when you have to pop it back in place. Now…. My recent small bone fracture in the wrist that still hurts lifting and twisting the scoop. Hopefully you are on the mend. I pick and choose my hunts now….. more of a hobby I guess. I’ll let the young guys have their turn at those 10 hour days. Just leave me a couple golds.

For those with trigger finger, try powdered ginger in coffee/tea. H had it in my right ring finger a few years ago and it cleared up within a week.
