If I'm looking for deeper targets in areas with low to moderate trash, would it be benefical to turn on pitch hold and turn fast off. Or would it be better to
just go to long audio response with the fast turned off?

Use LONG tones.

I used them with great success with my Etrac at clean sites, and use them currently with my CTX3030. The duration of the tone corresponds with signal strength/depth, so a deep target has a shorter tone than a very shallow target. It's useful for determining those deep targets that could be either iron or a coin, as iron falsing will squeak and a coin will have a very pronounced much longer "round" sound.

I am going to have to look into long tones. I just wonder about pinpointing.

That is exactly what it is designed for. A change in threshold pitch is an indication of a missed deep target.

I still prefer Long tones for that situation.
