I hit the river for a couple of days this weekend. When I found this bottle, I did not have my glasses on so I thought it was a straight sided Coca-Cola bottle. I never keep broken bottles but I kept this one because I wanted to date it. Didn’t look at it for two days. this morning I noticed that it was not a Coca-Cola bottle. It is a Celery-Cola bottle. After doing some reading I learned that Celery-Cola was started by a guy who partnered with John Pemberton, the pharmacist who created Coca-Cola. They operated from 1899 until 1910 when the government put them out of business because of the high levels of cocaine and caffeine in their soda. They were headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama and had bottling plants in southern states. And one in Cuba. My bottle is from Cuba. I can’t even find a picture of another one online. I read that they are extremely rare. And as it turns out, I found it at a new spot that I haven’t even scratched the surface of yet. So there might be another one. I can’t wait to go back. Really good negative low tide right now too but the winds are blowing at 15 knots and the river is muddy.
