What the heck is this thing?

I found this out in the desert. It's made of brass and very smooth, like it had been worn for a while before it was lost. It seems to be sand cast in a fairly crude mold and is about 1/2" around and 4" long.

I'm thinking it is either something to do with horse tack or some sort of military peice. Anyone have a clue?

Could be anything, but my guess is either a rope holder thingy for tents or pegs to climb things with.

No, only a casting line at the end of the round part where the sand cast mold parted.
