Here is a veritable treasure chest of fun for kids. When they open this miniature pirate's chest, they'll discover:

An Eye Patch * An Earring * Pirate's Coins * Rope for Nautical Knot-Tying * A Jolly Roger Pirate Flag * Pirate Posters * A Pirate's Bandana * A Pirate's Journal

Also, a paperback book and sets of cards teach kids how to tie sailor's knots, recognize different types of sailing ships, and follow a pirates' treasure map. Hidden in the chest's secret compartment is a hoard of replica coins, an eye patch, a pirate's flag, and ship's rope. As kids look further into the chest they will find a hardcover Pirate's Journal -a thrilling sea story that begins at a Caribbean port in the year 1715 and tells of a search for buried treasure. Sue Unstead, the story's author, has many children's books of history and nonfiction to her credit. The Little Box of Pirate Treasures is a terrific child's pastime, a source of fun on rainy days, and a kit guaranteed to spark youthful imaginations while providing hours of pleasure.

E-gads wyoming! You've solved the mystery!!!! :wow:

BIG THANK YOU! Everyone will be so happy...

It should be added to our list of banned words and expressions along with "Dainty" and "Britches":lol::lol::lol::lol:

It was actually nice seeing that, because I haven't thought about that word in years.
How about "oky doky," there's another one.

I'm beginning to think sectshun8 is right. The 1741 is not numbers at all, but symbols.. More like "one... seven... upside down seven... one." You can clearly see the "ones" are not really ones, and the sevens are split in the center, which would make them not sevens, but a symbol.

If they are a coin from Constantinople, they have no business being in the ground in the USA. And if they are made from bronze, that not an easy process is it? Who would go through the trouble of making a token or gaming piece out of bronze? They would use some junk metal.

Not so fast on dismissing a coins anthenticity just because it is a long way from home Carol.
I live thirty miles north of Portland Oregon and while detecting a local jr high

I found a
1972 Quartje from the Netherlands. It is just a Dutch quarter but being my first silver find I was quite pumped up.
Ten steps further on I recovered a coin that was encased in crusty dirt. Thinking it was just another Chucky Cheese token I simply dropped it in my coin pouch.
After removing it from my tumbler the next day I saw it was an interesting coin after all. Much research (Byzantine coin site) I finally found the coin was from Constantanople and made in the year 1254-ish.
At a coin show I let the smartest foreign coin expert verify that it was real and that I really screwed it up bytumbling. 150.or so bucks in great shape but with the shape of mine and what I did to it the worth was now down to 15 or so bucks.
I imagine the coin was just a common trinket brought home from a world war 2 G.I.
As long a people have pockets and the freedom to travel the world, we should not be surprised to find the darndest things in the darndest places.

E-gads? I don't know where I pulled that out of Ed!

Whenever I post I just type what pops into my head.

BTW I always spelled it okie dokie. :D

Absolutely true! I'll never be able to explain the Roman coins I found on the beach.

the thing is my bro bought that kit and that if the exact coin ill keep an eye out for it and when i find it ill post a pic
