I tried two local parks yesterday. The first one I had never been to before and the second one, I had visited once in the past. Both are nice spots, with the first one being right along the Mohawk River, very scenic and relaxing, and the second is a small pocket park with some old trees and quiet to walk. I enjoyed the river views and had a touch of luck with a '37 and '40 wheat. Unfortunately, although this is an older park, the grounds were scraped off and resewn with topsoil some years back, and I think they took most of the older coins and relics with them. Still, I enjoyed the walk and the weather was perfect. The second park is also older, and has been hunted many times by others. I've only been there once before, and did not find anything old on that visit. Yesterday, this little park also gave me something back. My first target of the visit was a 1917 wheatie, and shortly after, I found a 1918 wheatie. Looked around for another 30 minutes and had a 26 on the Legend. Gave it a dig, and came up with a Buff Nickel. THe little park has my Legend in the pic. The date is virtually worn off, and after careful cleaning, and a little bath in virgin olive oil, when turning it at various angles toward the light, it looks like either a 1932 or 1938. Most of the Buffs I find have little-to-no dates on them, so no surprise here, but I was happy to release this one from the dirt in that little park. Things seem to come in spurts. Last week, I found 3 Mercs in two days, and this week, I found 2 Buffs in 2 days. Wonder what next week will bring...
