Hello,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for this forum as I am new here and have just spent many hours going through some of the amazing finds! :wow2:

The items being found are just mind blowing, especially the wartime excavations.

Although I don't metal detect at the moment, I love hunting around for surface finds, old bottles, cartridges, anything that looks cool. These finds were not detected, but I thought this was the best place to put them, hopefully it is alright?

I found these items around an ex WW2 RAF base (also US Troop Carrier Group) in Lincolnshire, through thick brambles around old Stanton shelters and concrete shed bases, and also in a tree copse that used to house many war-time buildings.

I think the metal is aluminium because corroded not rusted, and military because of the direct instructions on top. I thought aluminium was used in aircraft production circa ww2, and was expensive and in short supply, so maybe a lightweight part?

The glass lens is ridiculously well made, so solid and would take a beating. I thought maybe from torch or lantern, maybe a vehicle (Willys?)

Thanks for any input and help given, and good luck on your adventures. :good:

Cheers,
Alex

Is it possible the glass item is a canning jar lid insert? Something similar to this?

That's great, yeah definitely can see it being a jar lid or a small vehicle light or something! I just find it cool when 80 ish years later you can still find possible war era stuff lying around, mostly 'way off the beaten track', involving inconceivable amounts of brambles!

The cap just struck me a bit different made from aluminium instead of the usual rusty but equally cool relics, and the stamped letters shout wartime to me.

Will have to look at getting myself a cheap detector to broaden the search someday, finances permitting!

Cheers,
Al
