Hello,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for this forum as I am new here and have just spent many hours going through some of the amazing finds!
The items being found are just mind blowing, especially the wartime excavations.
Although I don't metal detect at the moment, I love hunting around for surface finds, old bottles, cartridges, anything that looks cool. These finds were not detected, but I thought this was the best place to put them, hopefully it is alright?
I found these items around an ex WW2 RAF base (also US Troop Carrier Group) in Lincolnshire, through thick brambles around old Stanton shelters and concrete shed bases, and also in a tree copse that used to house many war-time buildings.
I think the metal is aluminium because corroded not rusted, and military because of the direct instructions on top. I thought aluminium was used in aircraft production circa ww2, and was expensive and in short supply, so maybe a lightweight part?
The glass lens is ridiculously well made, so solid and would take a beating. I thought maybe from torch or lantern, maybe a vehicle (Willys?)
Thanks for any input and help given, and good luck on your adventures.
Cheers,
Alex
