I had a family member that told me a story this weekend. An old man lived on a neighboring farm between family land back in the 1800's. His house was positioned right within the woods at the foot of the mountain. They called this area "Silver Holler".

Apparently this man bought and sold cattle and only dealt in silver. He never had a bank account and was known to bury stuff around the house. Unexpectedly he passed away due to a heart attack. Due to the sudden heart attack, he never had a chance to tell his family where he had his money.

His grandson (now in his 60's) told my cousin that when his grandfather passed away he and his father tore the house apart (walls out and everything) trying to find his grandfathers silver. They never found it.

The house is gone now, but you can tell where it used to be. We are wanting to try to explore and see if our detectors will pick something up. I'm assuming he would bury something in mason jars or coffee cans. I have a Fisher F4 and I was just looking for any advice since I am very new to this hobby. To date I've found about $30 in clad, a silver ring, and 1 rosie. What do y'all think about this possible exploration? Thanks!

If it was me, I would consider bringing in a few experienced MD "finders" and offering a reward?

Good Luck...

Yeah! And grid that property off, covering every inch. Try to think of where he'd bury something to find it again later (high ground, landmarks, etc). I'd check for old maps, aerial photos, and Google Earth. Sounds like a great project. Best of luck!

Wish I had your problems. I can't help with settings, but would suggest start near the home site. Take your time, work it section by section. Dig about everything! Keep track of areas covered. Play it very close to the vest on who you tell. If it were me it would be a SUMMER project and maybe a honey hole. If you MD with someone now and trust them, perhaps a team effort. Just some thoughts. HH BE SMART ,STAY SAFE, brag after you finish your final hunt. To many real pirates out there. Good luck.
