Hello My Friends!

I can't believe we're already 20 days into the new year, and this is only my first post for 2016. For those that were wondering what my final Silver coin/Gold tallies were for 2015, I ended up with 790 silver coins(my forever most productive year), along with 25 golds. My sterling/wheat penny finds last year were through the roof also. It was a year I will never forget. This year will be a much more, laid back detecting year, and I have no goals, which is a much needed relief from last year's craziness/gluttony! Having said that, my 2016 Detecting year couldn't have gotten off to a better start so far! I've been out on numerous turf and beach hunts, and I seemed to have started where I left off last year.

For the turf hunts I have been on these past few weeks, my buddies and I couldn't have picked better pillaged spots to hunt. We've just been killing the oldies!! Wheat penny totals between 20-40 coins per hunt (all day hunts), along with 3-7 silver coins have been the norm so far this year. Even some indian pennies have been surfacing, which is pretty rare for So Cal turf spots. I have also found some cool sterling/copper items, including a heavy, 10 gram sterling good luck spinner ring, sterling buckle, and copper barrel pendant.

My beach hunts couldn't have been any better also. One day, I took a drive to a beach between San Diego and Zuma :D , and found 3 gold rings and 2 silver rings, along with some silver coins/wheat pennies. I couldn't believe when I unearthed the first of my gold rings. It was a crazy, gaudy design with a light blue stone on it. No markings inside, but it tested positive for 14K (5 grams). My 2nd ring was even better. From around 15-16" down, I saw this discolored, large ring in my sand pile. I thought it was another, older class ring, but it turned out to be a gold signet ring. It has been in the sand/surf a long time. It cleaned up well and weighed in at 9.92 grams, and tested good for 14K. Only 5 minutes had passed, after digging the 2nd gold, when I got my 3rd gold. No markings inside, but it also tested good for 14K (2.28 grams). I've been out on a small handful of beach hunts since that day, and have done very well in the silver coin totals, finding a nice '37 Walker, 1924 SLQ, 1913 S Barber Dime, a silver Washington, along with the usual merc/rosies, and some interesting brass items.

Temps here today are gonna hit the 70's. I know a lot of you across the country are gonna have to wait a few months for the frozen tundra to thaw out before you can start hunting again, so hang in there guys, keep warm, stay safe, grab some snacks before logging in, and hope we can keep you entertained with our finds thru your down time and lessen that cabin fever.

Thanks for looking!

HH,
Raphis
Dan

Holy Moly, it just keeps getting better........

Next time you pillage down near San Diego, you should give a holler. I promise I can't get anywhere close to your 18" depth, so your gold is safe..... ;)

I need to move to the Left Coast:lol: It's simply outrageous, Dan...the amount of silver and vintage gold you've recovered already this season...congrats and keep it up!

Congrats on an epic start to 2016 Dan! Congrats on all the finds especially the gold. I am still surprised on those to hunts we had and couldn't believe all the oldies we were pulling from those two pounded spots. Looking forward to another fun year of hunting.
Jason

I'll say it once and I'll say it again, you are the man Dan!

and that's a rhyme!

Holy crapola your gold is insane! those are all super beautiful rings buddy. almost 10 grams in that one ring... wow! that's like $200 Melt. that one ring is so yellow I thought it might be 18k.

as for having no goal, man. that's gotta be a relief after chasing your record.(as soon as you realized how close you were.)

I also decided on not having a goal, in my first 4 1/2ish months(of educated hunting) I did 140 Silver coins, so that gives me plenty of time to relax and easily push past 140. Perhaps Quality over quantity will be my focus, either way, the good life.

Shame you didn't find the other piece of that Walker. Someone else probably got it shortly after it was chopped by a lawn-mower.

Great thread, amazing job Dan, looking forward to seeing some more of your finds. :D

Woo hooo! Great to see your post Raph. Congrats on those Indians and what a gold haul . well all the silver and goodies also.
As a member of the frozen tundra team your post has been anxiously awaited.
I'm thinking we need to wait for a monsoon to hit your area for you to get a day off from hunting to post your piles of loot .
Just a curious question as I sit here pouring hot coffee into my thermose before I head out and drive 2 miles out onto the frozen lake with my truck in search of a walleye dinner.
I was wondering on a typical hunt for the day with Jam n the boys , what kind of clad totals your picking up ? Got to be any amaizing total year end on clad also. Don't worry I don't work for the IRS . 😎 just comparing my mere mortal numbers to your masterful hunting reports.
Please include a photo of some soft fluffy sand or nice green grass in your next report for those of us living in a black and white and grey world this time of year.
thanks and great report, Dew
