As I wait to get my first MD, I keep thinking of all the places I'm going to use it. My back yard being the first place I plan to try it. I have read on here about other people MDing in their or someone else's yards. Well I got to thinking about all the things I buried as a child. Other then random toys lost in the various backyards I'd lived in growing up.

The first thing to come to mind was my 4th grade time capsule project. We all gathered together stuff that we thought represented the currant times and put them in our coffee cans and buried them in our back yards. I know that teacher did that project with ever year he taught so there must be time capsules all over that town. LOL.

The next thing that came to mind was Nibbles, my beloved childhood hamster. Who, when his time came, was solemnly buried in our back yard in an old metal lunch box coffin. I am now not so sure I want to know whats out in my currant back yard.

So what are some of the interesting things you've found in peoples yards? ;)

Since Getting a Detector, I have been Searching Past Family Members Homes.
Insearch of a Lost Coin or Relic from any Past Relatives. Sweeping the Old Clothesline, Picnictable, Sandbox, Big Trees, Swingset, Areas. I Found 60's and 70's Clad, and Buttons, so Far. But, Predicting Target Areas, and then making Finds in those Areas, is so Cool.

At my Aunts Old House, the Current Resident gave me Permission. I Found
A Gold Ring with a Blue Stone. A Cayman Island Penny, and a Wheatie. Along with other Clad.

Since I was willing to Reveal my Finds. The Lady who said "Ya, Ya, Go Ahead."
Now is Claiming the Dark Dirty Items. Thinking I just Dug Up Her Lotto Ticket.
I Surrender the Finds, Make One Last Attempt to Try and Clean them for Her.

But, then the Grandson wants to Detect, who is Four Years Old. Walks Around in the Front Yard Boings on Three Pennies and AA Battery. Wow!!

The Old Saying: "Some of My Best finds have been in My Own Backyard."

I would love to go down to Charlotte and hunt in my former father-in-law's backyard. He didn't have too much faith in banks, so he buried his cash in the yard in Mason jars. The garage had a dirt floor, and when he moved out, went in there and unearthed three of the jars to take with him. He showed them to me and these three were full of silver certificates. He was an alcoholic and probably drunk when he buried some, so I doubt he remembered all his jars and left some behind.

He moved from there and went to another home north of Charlotte. And buried his jars once again. He died suddenly in 1995, and his property was bought up by neighboring IBM. I have no doubt there's a small fortune still buried somewhere under IBM's lawn.

My new house

Just moved to a new home. Backyard was my first location w/ new machine.

Found old fashioned metal hose nozle, clad around the swing set, a large hoe (no, not my mother in law) and several unID'd trinkets. Suprised to find so much. 13 or so items in all.

That wouldn't happen to be Mr. Burke from Lincoln Elementry would it? He had us do that in 5th grade I believe. I went to Lincoln/Edison and parker for a little bit before I moved to Hawaii.

I found an Indian head pennie in my yard a few days ago. Have not been able to read the date because it is so dirty. Hope to clean it up, but not destroy it in the process. My yard has turned up lots of cool stuff.

I haven't even attempted to find things in my own yard, since I live in a less than 10 year old subdivision that was previously a cornfield. I wouldn't expect to find much except maybe debris left from construction of the house. :(

Nibbles the hamster sure reminds me of Roscoe the Rabbit, who I exhumed with a power auger while installing a fence.

We did the time capsule thing too in elementary school. I sure don't remember where we buried it. It was around the school somewhere.

In the backyard of the house where I spent most of my childhood I buried a jar full of coins and nicknack's. I would love to search that yard. I'm sure I would find lots of junk.
John Mayer has a song "83" where he talks about going back in time to his childhood... one of my favorite lines is "That's my plastic in the dirt" ... I can identify with this because I remember, before moving, finding lego pieces and G.I. Joe toys buried in spots of my yard.

The oddest find in my yard was a set of 5 keys, taped together and wrapped in a foil coffee pouch. Found it directly under where the old clothes line was, about 4" down. I still have the keys, but never did find out what they opened.

Still can not read the date on my indian head, but found a 1955 wheatie in a parking lot today. The park is maybe 10 years old, so who knows where the thing came from. If you need some instant coins, search parking lots. I lined up where the car doors would be, and hit coins like crazy. I am off during the week, so I can go when no one is around. This lot is the overflow for several baseball and soccer fields, and gets lots of traffic. Also found a silver ear ring. You might get a surprise from the fill dirt used in your subdivision. I hunt at home alot, becasue I don't often have lots of time.
